Alpha Damon (Sienna) novel Chapter 341

Ethan:

The infirmary was too quiet.

And with every passing day, I just found it heavier for me to breathe, harder for me to contain myself, to be able to understand how everything went the way that it was.

I stood in the doorway, staring at her.

Delilah.

She lay still on the cot, her dark hair fanned over the pillow, her face pale against the sheets. The bandages across her shoulder and chest were fresh, but her skin was clammy, and her breathing shallow.

A week.

A whole goddamn week she’d been like this.

And it was killing me.

There, no matter how hard I tried to stand strong, to tell myself that we’ve won this, looking at her, it didn’t feel like we won. It just felt like we lost something more than I wanted to admit. And now I couldn’t take a breath without wondering how things were going to be.

Sienna’s voice broke through my haze. “She’ll pull through. She’s been through hell before, she managed to get up from it. She’s not going to give up on us now.”

I turned and found her leaning against the doorframe, her arms crossed. Her expression was calm, but her eyes were tired. She hadn’t slept and I knew that she was worried. We saw triumph, we saw victory, and suddenly everything just seemed to collapse at once.

“You sure about that?” I asked, sharper than I meant to. “With her being like this for a whole week, are you really sure that this is an argument that you want to put up?”

She didn’t flinch.

“She’s stronger than most of us combined. If anyone can wake up and finish what she started, it’s Delilah.” She said calmly. “ You know that for a fact you would be breaking down if this was not the reality of how things were.”

I let out a breath I didn’t know I’d been holding. “You really believe that? Because I want to believe that it’s true, but every day that I see her in this situation, I just find it harder for me to believe that it’s true.”

Sienna nodded once. “I do. And you, just like me, should know that she is strong. You, just like me, should admit that she can get through this because if you give up on her, who’s going to stand strong for her sake?”

Beside her, Lysandra straightened, her fingers still red from cleaning Delilah’s wounds earlier. Her voice was soft, but firm.

“She’s strong,” Lysandra said. “She always has been. You just need to give her time. Just like everyone else, she needs to recover. The wounds that she got were not easy ones and you know that.”

I swallowed hard, glancing between them.

“I’ll go and clean this up.

“}

“I’ll help you out. Do you want to come, Ethan?”

I shoved my hands in my pockets before shaking my head. I couldn’t leave her like this night when I knew that I could take a break. There was nothing important for me to do right now, and I knew that. Though it was not wise of me to give in to my pain, I knew that she needed me by her side.

“Leave me with her for a while. I might come once I’ve seen that she is okay.” I said calmly. The lump in my throat was growing bigger by the second, but I forced myself to hold my ground.
