Alpha’s Regret After His Pregnant Luna Left novel Chapter 132

(Audrey’s POV)

“He’s been unconscious since the attack.” Daniel’s words echoed in my mind, setting off alarms I thought I’d silenced.

I’d told myself repeatedly to stop caring about Arthur. To move on. But hearing he was hurt, my wolf reacted instantly-a conditioned reflex built over our years together. My heart raced, and Cora whimpered anxiously inside me.

I grabbed my car keys, my movements automatic and urgent. “At the medical center? I’ll be right there,” I confirmed, surprising myself with how calm I sounded despite the panic bubbling beneath my skin.

The drive to the Wolf Medical Center passed in a blur. My thoughts raced dangerously. Who would dare attack Arthur Moonstone? As Alpha King, he was the most powerful wolf in the territory. The attack must have been significant to leave him unconscious for so long.

Despite mentally preparing myself during the drive, seeing Arthur was still a shock. He sat on the hospital bed, unusually pale, staring blankly out the window while a pack healer carefully dressed wounds along his side and chest. Discarded bandages stained with blood lay on a tray nearby.

A sharp pain shot through me at the sight, my wolf whimpering loudly inside. After all our complications, seeing him hurt affected me more than I wanted to admit.

“Luna Winter…” Daniel Hayes nodded respectfully as I entered.

Arthur’s head snapped up at the greeting, his vacant gaze suddenly focused and alert as he noticed me standing in the doorway.

“Why is it so serious?” I asked, my voice tight as I took in the deep wounds stretching across his torso. The bloody bandages and the healer’s intense concentration suggested something far worse than a minor injury.

Arthur straightened, wincing slightly before forcing his expression to neutralize. “It’s nothing, a small injury.”

“Yes,” Daniel interjected sarcastically, “a small injury that kept him unconscious for a day and two nights. Don’t be so stubborn, Alpha.”

Arthur shot him a cold glare, his eyes flashing dangerously gold. “Who told you to tell her?”

Daniel pointed to the wolf pendant clutched in Arthur’s hand-the one I’d made for him years ago. Without waiting for Arthur’s response, he quickly left the room, escaping before Arthur’s Alpha presence could intensify further.

The pack healer finished securing the clean bandages around Arthur’s torso, her movements efficient and practiced. “The wounds are healing, Alpha Moonstone, but more slowly than we’d expect given your usual regeneration abilities.”

She gathered her supplies, her eyes serious as she continued. “You must be careful not to reopen them. Change the dressings twice daily, and watch for any signs of infection. The previous silver wound has compromised your healing capacity.”

Arthur simply nodded, his commanding presence diminishing slightly. The healer recognized the dismissal in his body language and turned to me.

“Luna Winter, please keep an eye on him,” she said, her tone respectful but concerned.

I felt awkward, suddenly aware of how inappropriate this whole situation was. Arthur and I were separating, yet here I was, being addressed as his Luna and asked to care for him.

“I’ll be sure to relay your instructions to his Beta,” I responded diplomatically.

The healer nodded and left, closing the door softly behind her.

Alone with Arthur, the tension in the room thickened. His scent-pine and musk-filled the space, achingly familiar.

“Why…” I began hesitantly, “didn’t you let Daniel tell me?” It seemed contradictory after his recent attempts to reconcile.

Arthur’s lips twisted in a half-smile tinged with self-mockery. “I was afraid you wouldn’t come. Then I’d be really pathetic.”

His honesty caught me off guard. I looked away, suddenly unable to meet his eyes.

“If you’re going to say that, then there have been many times when I was pathetic,” I retorted softly, remembering countless occasions I’d waited for his attention or affection that never came.

Arthur reached out with surprising quickness, catching my wrist and pulling me closer to the bed. His gaze held an intensity that made my breath catch, his familiar scent enveloping me completely.

“You still have some feelings for me, right?” he asked, his voice low and serious. “You heard I was hurt, and you came. So why… won’t you give me a chance to make amends for our mate bond?”

I inhaled deeply, unwittingly drawing more of his scent into my lungs. My wolf stirred restlessly.

“Listen to the pack healer and take care of yourself,” I said stiffly as I stepped back, needing to put distance between us.

Arthur sensed my withdrawal immediately. His hand shot out, catching mine. “Are you leaving now?”

“Yes.” I pulled my hand free gently but firmly. Seeing him alert and mobile, relatively stable despite his injuries, had calmed my initial panic. My wolf still whimpered with concern, but I couldn’t allow myself to stay.

Further involvement with Arthur’s care felt unnecessarily complicated, especially with our mate bond severance proceeding. It would only blur the boundaries I’d worked so hard to establish.

Outside in the hallway, Daniel waited, his expression carefully neutral as I emerged.

“You’re leaving already?” he asked, surprise evident in his tone.

I nodded, adjusting my purse strap on my shoulder. “He seems stable. The wounds are serious, but not life-threatening.”

Daniel’s eyes showed concern beyond his professional demeanor. “He’ll need someone to change those dressings properly. I’m not particularly good at such things.”

“The pack healers can handle it,” I replied. “The Alpha’s private ward has excellent care.”

“Pack healers are not as good as a mate…” he began carefully.

I cut him off before he could continue down that path. “Daniel, you know better than anyone that he and I are severing our mate bond. It’s no longer appropriate for me to do these things.”

Daniel looked at me directly, his professional mask slipping. “Who else would risk these troublesome issues for their soon-to-be severed mate?”
