Alpha’s Regret After His Pregnant Luna Left novel Chapter 35

(Audrey’s POV)

To my surprise, Arthur didn’t say anything. He just turned around and walked towards the door.

I sat on the edge of my bed, the weight of the night before looming heavily over my shoulders. Arthur’s constant presence was suffocating, yet my wolf, Grace, stirred uneasily at the thought of him leaving.

The memory of his touch from last night refused to fade, his words still echoing in my ears. But I couldn’t let it sway me. I had to put distance between us. For my sake. For the sake of the pups.

I held my breath as I heard heavy footsteps approaching outside my room. Seconds later, there was a sharp knock on the door.

“Aren’t you coming out for breakfast?” Arthur’s voice carried through the wood, calm yet insistent.

I hesitated, glancing down at my sleepwear. I hadn’t even mustered the energy to change. “I’m not hungry,” I called, hoping he’d leave it at that.

The door creaked open without so much as a warning. Arthur stepped inside, his gaze instantly locking onto me. He was freshly dressed, his usual composed demeanor firmly in place.

“You look pale,” he observed, his brows furrowing. “Is something wrong?”

I bit the inside of my cheek, searching for a way to deflect. “I’m fine.”

His eyes narrowed slightly, clearly not convinced. “You’ve been uneasy since yesterday. Audrey… if you’re feeling unwell, we can visit the Moonstone Pack Medical Center.”

The mere mention of the medical center sent a jolt of panic through me. My heart raced, and Grace whimpered softly in my head.

“No,” I blurted sharply, then quickly collected myself. “I mean… I just don’t like hospitals. They make me uncomfortable.”

Arthur tilted his head, studying me closely. “You’re hiding something.”

The intensity in his eyes was like a predator cornering its prey. My grip tightened around the lotion bottle I held, trying to maintain a calm facade.

“I’m not-” Before I could finish, his sharp gaze dropped to my trembling hands.

“You wouldn’t be keeping something from me, would you?” His voice was low, carrying an edge that sent shivers down my spine.

Startled, I fumbled with the bottle, and it slipped from my grasp, clattering loudly as it hit the floor. My face burned with the realization of how obvious my nervousness had become.

Arthur’s brow rose, and he stepped closer, his presence commanding. “Audrey.”

The way he said my name-it wasn’t a question. It was a demand.

My chest tightened under the weight of his gaze. The truth was clawing at my throat, but I couldn’t let it out. Not now. Not like this.

The panic bubbling within me resulted in a hasty excuse. “I’m sick.”

His expression sharpened. “Sick?” His voice hardened as he stepped closer. “And you never thought to tell me?”

I took a step back instinctively, my back pressing against the wall. “I thought it wasn’t serious,” I said too quickly. “And another reason why we need to sever our mate bond. I don’t want…” My voice wavered. “I don’t want to inconvenience you.”

Arthur froze, and then his composure shattered. His hand shot out, grabbing my wrist-not harshly, but firmly enough that escaping wasn’t an option.

“Inconvenience me?” His voice was sharp, his frustration evident. “Stop deflecting, Audrey. You’re hiding something. What is it?”

His grip on me tightened, not painfully, but enough to drive his resolve. I winced lightly but refused to answer.

“If you won’t talk,” he said coldly, dragging me toward the door, “we’ll settle this at the medical center. Now.”

Panic surged through me. I yanked back against his pull, attempting to break free. “Arthur, no! Let me go!”

“You’re not leaving me in the dark, Audrey,” he snapped, refusing to release me. His tone turned darker, his possessiveness cutting through. “If you’re sick, we’ll handle it. But don’t think you can run away from this. Not from me.”

My chest heaved as I fought against the storm of emotions within me. “And what if I die, Arthur?” I spat bitterly, my voice trembling with rage. “What then? Will you just bury the ashes and move on?”

His response was immediate, his tone cold yet laced with an unshakable edge. “If you dare die, I’ll dig up your ashes and bury them on Moonstone Pack grounds.”

His words left me momentarily stunned. There was no softness in them, only raw, possessive intensity. Grace whimpered faintly, caught in the whirlwind of his emotions.

But the irony struck me just as hard. A man who couldn’t even return my feelings talked as if he couldn’t let go.

I took a deep breath, shoving aside the conflicting emotions. “Fine,” I muttered begrudgingly. “I’ll go.”

If he wanted to meddle in my health, he’d get his answers soon enough.

The drive to the medical center was suffocating.

Arthur sat stiffly in the seat beside me, his sharp profile reflecting against the car window. His silence was deafening, and I couldn’t bring myself to break it.

My thoughts spiraled as the car cut through the familiar roads leading to the Alpha Council’s medical wing.

“Needles?” His eyebrows lifted slightly, almost amused.

I glared, though the fear inside me refused to abate. “I can handle it.”

Without a word, he moved closer-closer than he needed to be. He knelt by my chair and reached for my hand.

My breath stalled as his fingers gently enveloped mine, his warmth cutting through the icy panic that had gripped me. “Relax,” he murmured, his tone softer than I’d ever heard it.

The kindness in his gesture was more devastating than if he had stayed indifferent.

I bit the inside of my cheek to suppress the tears threatening to fall. Grace ached at the bittersweet comfort of the moment, while I reminded myself that it wouldn’t last.

When the blood was finally drawn, and the needle removed, I exhaled shakily. Arthur didn’t release my hand until I pulled away first.

By the time the ultrasound began, my nerves were raw.

Dr. Juliette’s cheerful announcement pierced through the silence like lightning.

“Congratulations, Luna Audrey! You’re pregnant. Look here.” She turned the screen to show me the small, but unmistakable shape.

Tears I hadn’t realized I was holding back poured freely down my face, Grace howling in my chest.

Conflicting waves of joy, fear, and sorrow threatened to drown me. It was real. The future I had wrestled with over the last weeks was tangible now.

Dr. Juliette smiled warmly. “Would you like me to include this in the report for Alpha Moonstone?”

“No,” I blurted hastily, clutching the ultrasound printout tightly. “Don’t. P-Please. He can’t know.”

The doctor’s expression turned sympathetic, her gaze firm as she crouched to my level. “Audrey… children deserve complete families. I urge you to give this some thought before finalizing the mate bond severance.”

Her words pierced through me, but I couldn’t respond.

When I finally left the room, the ultrasound report in hand, it felt like every step I took was heavier and more laden with guilt.
