Alpha’s Regret After His Pregnant Luna Left novel Chapter 43

(Audrey’s POV)

I stirred awake on the small armchair next to Sarah’s hospital bed, my neck protesting sharply at the awkward angle. The morning light streamed through the blinds, soft but insistent. Sarah, pale but alert, sat upright, poking half-heartedly at her breakfast tray. Her IV bag swayed slightly as the infusion continued, a stark reminder of how frail she looked compared to her usual fiery self.

“Morning, sleepyhead,” Sarah croaked, her voice hoarse from all the alcohol that poisoned her system. She managed to find an impish smile despite her weakened state. “You look worse than me. Stay up all night planning pack sabotage?”

I let out a half-laugh, half-sigh, stretching my sore limbs. “No, just making sure you didn’t choke in your sleep. Honestly, Sarah, what were you thinking? Drinking yourself into a hospital bed? You’re lucky I found out in time.”

She winced but shrugged it off. “Eh, Lucas will use it as some romantic ‘tragic martyr’ nonsense again. Maybe he’ll finally get tired of me ‘breaking his heart.'” She snorted and stabbed at the eggs on her plate. “So spill. What happened last night? Did that wolf of yours do anything worthwhile or is he still glued to his precious Victoria?”

I shook my head, pouring a cup of herbal tea from a flask I’d brought. “Let’s not get into that. Besides, you’re in no state to-“

“Don’t avoid it, Aud,” she interrupted, narrowing her eyes. “The last time Arthur got drugged with that wolfy cocktail, you wouldn’t tell me details. What happened that night? God help me if you say you two actually…” Her gaze sharpened, lips curling into a devilish grin. “… Did you?”

I choked on the tea mid-sip, coughing violently as Sarah’s laughter filled the tiny hospital room. My ears burned, and I fumbled with a napkin to avoid looking directly at her.

“No!” I exclaimed, the word spilling out a little too fast. “Of course not, Sarah!”

She raised an eyebrow, skeptical. “You’ve got that defensive look again. Don’t lie to me.”

“I’m not lying,” I insisted, setting the mug down with a thud. “It didn’t happen. Not even close, okay? I wouldn’t, especially not in my…” My voice trailed off as my hand instinctively brushed across my stomach.

Sarah’s eyebrows knitted together. “Wait, you’re still in the first trimester, aren’t you?”

I nodded, and her expression softened. “Oh, right. No funny business allowed. Doctor’s orders, huh?” Her shoulders relaxed, though a mischievous glint danced in her eyes. “Still… you’re telling me he kept his claws in check? That’s some next-level restraint for a wolf pumped full of aphrodisiac. Color me impressed-or suspicious.” She paused. “You think he’d head over to the Silver Moon District that night instead?”

I glared at her. “Sarah! Arthur wouldn’t do that.”

She grinned, feigning innocence. “I’m just saying. It’d explain a lot about Victoria’s pregnancy. But if he didn’t…” She leaned back, chewing over the thought. “I guess that means he’s clean of fathering Victoria’s pup. At least, this time.”

Her casual dismissal stung more than I wanted to admit. I sighed, pouring more tea to steady my nerves. “Even if it has nothing to do with him, it doesn’t change the fact she’s doing everything to drag him under her toxic web again. I don’t know how much longer I can deal with it, Sarah.”

She hesitated, then reached out to gently squeeze my hand. “Audrey, you’re tougher than all of them combined. Don’t let that conniving little she-wolf get under your skin.”

Later that morning, Sarah flipped open her tablet, scrolling through the pack forums while we sat waiting for her final discharge paperwork. Her face lit up as she tapped on a specific thread, the sheer amount of bold headlines catching her attention.

“Audrey,” she murmured, pushing the device toward me with a sly grin. “You need to see this.”

My eyes scanned the titles. “Victoria Moonstone: From Beta’s Wife to Pack’s Walking Scandal,” “Sleeping Your Way Through Packs: The Victoria Story,” and “Alpha Arthur’s Secret Family?”

I blinked, stunned. Clicking one, the hate-filled comments glaring back made my jaw tighten. “What the-where did this come from?”

Sarah grinned wickedly, sipping on juice like she’d heard all the gossip firsthand. “The forums exploded last night. Someone leaked her pregnancy news and connected the dots to Arthur. Pack wolves are ruthless, aren’t they?”

The posts were relentless, dissecting every aspect of Victoria’s past relationships and speculating wildly about her manipulative schemes to hold onto power. Insults, accusations, and brutal exposés peppered the comment section.

I had to look away, the sheer vitriol too overwhelming. “This is… way over the line,” I muttered, setting the tablet aside.

“Victoria?” I breathed sharply, shocked by her intrusion.

“You-how dare you?!” Victoria screamed, cutting off any attempt to speak. “Jealous little mutt! Spreading rumors about my pup just because you can’t keep your Alpha satisfied! Are you actually that pathetic?”

My jaw tightened, her words stinging even though I knew her accusation was baseless. “What are you even talking about?”

“The forum posts!” she screeched. “Insults. Lies. All of it pinned on me because you’ve made me a target! Do you enjoy watching me suffer, Audrey? Does it feed your twisted ego to see me abused online for carrying Arthur’s child?”

I inhaled sharply, struggling to keep my temper. “Victoria, I have no idea who leaked your pregnancy.”

“Don’t lie to me! You’ve had your Luna years. Now, everything is returning to its rightful owner-me. Accept that your time is over. I’m the mother of his heir.”

“That pup isn’t his,” I shot back firmly, shaking from her unrelenting assault. “Even Arthur told me himself!”

She huffed, about to retort, but Arthur interrupted coldly. “Victoria, that’s enough.” His voice had a dark finality that even she couldn’t ignore, though her muttered indignation simmered in the background.

“Audrey wouldn’t do something like this,” he stated evenly, directing his calm back toward me. “I trust her word.”

Victoria’s gasp of outrage made me smirk bitterly, but her venom returned tenfold. “Arthur, you don’t see it! She’s playing innocent, but she’s the real interloper in all of this. Do you want me to reveal everything? Maybe then your ‘perfect little Luna’ will crumble under the truth!”
