Alpha’s Regret After His Pregnant Luna Left novel Chapter 47

(Sarah’s POV)

“Sarah, don’t go blowing up about it,” Lucas warned over the phone, his voice careful and low. “You know these things tend to spiral. You want to make this worse?”

“Oh, it’s already worse!” I hissed back, pacing the living room. “Temporary? That’s a joke. You don’t just hand a title like ‘personal assistant’ over to someone like Victoria without an agenda!” My voice was rising, but the frustration was boiling over.

“Just don’t explode, okay? Protect Audrey first. That’s what matters.”

I bit down hard on the urge to throw something. “Yeah, protect Audrey. Something Arthur should be doing instead of babysitting Victoria!”

“Look, just-keep her calm. Don’t tell her unless you’re sure she can handle it.”

The creak of the stairs behind me cut Lucas off mid-sentence. I turned abruptly and my heart sank. Audrey was standing there, arms crossed tightly against her chest, her brows drawn down with suspicion.

“I’m sorry… what do I need to handle?” Her voice was as sharp as cut glass, but it was the calm before the storm.

I froze, my throat dry. I hadn’t meant for her to overhear this. “Audrey-“

“What were you talking about just now?” she pressed. Her emerald eyes bore into mine, daring me to lie.

I let out a slow, defeated sigh and ended the call, tossing my phone on the couch. There was no point in hiding it, not when Audrey was already picking apart everything with that sharp mind of hers.

“It’s about Victoria,” I said with zero ceremony. “Arthur-well, more specifically, Richard-decided to make her his ‘personal assistant’ for some ridiculous reason.”

Audrey blinked once, her expression faltering for just a second before hardening into disbelief. “That can’t be right. Elder William wouldn’t allow something like that.”

“Yeah, you’re right. He wouldn’t.” I hesitated, biting my lip. “But Richard would. And apparently, he did.”

Her lips curved into a humorless smile, more bitter than amused. “Of course, it was him. Who else?”

“Audrey,” I started to suggest in a softer tone. “Let’s step out for a little, hmm? Forget about this for an hour. Shopping, maybe?” My attempt at coaxing her sounded weak even to my ears.

She shook her head. “I need to focus. I’ll just sit here and review therapy notes.” Her voice strained with forced indifference, but I could see the tightness in her jaw, the faint redness in her eyes. “If I let myself think about it too much, I’ll lose control. I can’t do that-not now.”

I nodded, pressing my lips together, but watching her turn back toward her work tugged at something deep in my chest.

(Audrey’s POV)

The sting of Sarah’s words, no matter how softly spoken, still clung to me. Richard’s decision to position Victoria as Arthur’s “personal assistant” felt like another slap in the face. Another reminder that my title as Luna meant so little to those who should have respected it.

But staying angry would accomplish nothing. I distracted myself by preparing for the day. I needed to focus on the Moonstone Therapy Center and my work. Nothing else deserved my energy today.

But not even ten minutes into reviewing my patient files, sharp pain shot through my abdomen like a claw slicing from the inside.

I gasped, clutching at my stomach. Something was wrong. This wasn’t the normal aches of a growing pup-it was deeper, sharper, and relentless.

As I rushed to the bathroom, my heart hammered in dread. My steps were uneven, each stabbing pain threatening to drop me to the floor.

I stood frozen in front of the full-length mirror, staring at the faint, horrifying streak of red that stained my thigh. Cold ran through me, numbing my fingers and toes.

“No, no,” I whispered shakily. My voice cracked under the weight of my fear.

“Audrey?” Sarah’s voice from outside the door was quick and concerned.

She’d always been sharp, always on edge when something felt off. “Are you alright in there?”

“Sarah…” My voice wavered, and within moments, she burst through the door.

The sight of me hunched over, clutching my stomach, snapped her into action. “What’s happening?!” she said, her voice shrill with panic.

“I think… something’s wrong with the pups,” I choked out, tears beginning to cloud my vision.

“To the car now!” she ordered, slipping her arm under mine to support me.

I could barely walk; the cramping intensified with every step. But Sarah wasn’t about to let me fall. Every inch of her screamed determination.

But I couldn’t say that aloud. Couldn’t admit how alone I felt.

A commotion outside the room broke through the heavy silence.

And then I heard it.

“This is your responsibility!” Victoria’s sharp voice carried through the corridor. “Fix it!”

My stomach turned.

Arthur’s deep voice replied, calm yet scolding. “You can’t keep creating chaos and expect me to deal with it.”

The voices grew louder as their argument continued.

A sudden sound from the door made my body freeze.

It creaked open slightly, revealing another patient who stepped out. And then, the door opened wider.

And there she was.

Victoria’s icy blue eyes locked on mine. Her expression froze, then twisted. First confusion-then immediate suspicion.

Her gaze flicked to the room’s interior, her lips curling slightly with derision. “Audrey,” she said, drawing out the name like venom.

I stayed frozen.

Before I could respond, her smirk widened. “What are you doing here, in the maternity ward of all places? Don’t tell me…” She gave a mocking little laugh. “Are you trying to compete with me now, too?”

Arthur stood behind her, looking between us, confusion clear in his furrowed brows.
