Alpha’s Regret After His Pregnant Luna Left novel Chapter 68

(Audrey’s POV)

I was pacing the confines of Sarah’s home, my mind spiraling with the weight of the day. All I wanted was the safety of silence, the small refuge I had here. But Arthur’s persistent demands through our mate bond had pulled me into yet another storm.

Sarah fussed as she handed me a thick jacket, her concern evident in her furrowed brows. “Are you sure you’re strong enough to face him right now? You just had surgery, Audrey. He’ll twist every word, and you’re not in a place to deal with another round of his insanity.”

I sighed deeply, brushing off her concerns. “I need to face him, Sarah. This can’t keep happening. I won’t let him control me anymore.”

She didn’t look convinced but didn’t press further. Instead, she grabbed her phone in case anything went wrong.

The cold night air hit me hard as I stepped outside. Arthur was standing by the entrance, illuminated by the faint glow of the pack territory’s overhead light. His presence filled the space like it always did-overbearing and suffocating. His dark eyes zeroed in on me, narrowing when he saw the stiffness in my movements.

“You look awful,” he muttered, his tone flat but carrying something unreadable.

“Thank you for the observation, Alpha Moonstone,” I replied bitterly, refusing to let him dictate the conversation right away.

“I didn’t summon you here for sarcasm, Audrey.” His jaw clenched, but there was an edge of restraint in his demeanor. “Why did you leave the medical center?”

“To avoid you,” I said without missing a beat, my voice sharp enough to cut glass.

His expression darkened as he stepped closer. “You should’ve waited for me. I came back to look for you.”

It was laughable at this point. “Are you serious?” Anger bubbled in my chest, rushing to the surface. “The same way you ‘looked’ for me at the accident scene? Because, if I recall it correctly, you didn’t even spare me a second glance after Victoria started wailing.”

His jaw tightened, his Alpha presence crawling over me. “That’s not fair-“

“Fair?” My voice rose as I cut him off. “Fair is you not accusing me of disappearing while you’ve been playing the part of Victoria’s loyal protector. Fair is you actually caring about what I’ve been through instead of chasing after her every miscarriage-induced whim.”

He didn’t deny it, which only made my anger burn hotter.

“And now you’re standing here,” I continued, venom in every word, “acting like I need to answer to you. Like you haven’t already obliterated any sense of loyalty I should feel! Tell me, Arthur, what right do you have to even question me at this point?”

Arthur let out a sharp breath, rubbing the back of his neck as if trying to contain his frustration. “You don’t understand.”

“Don’t understand what?” I snapped, cutting him off again. “Don’t understand your endless excuses for her? Don’t understand how you’ve abandoned me over and over because of her manipulations?”

His eyes darkened dangerously as he stepped closer, looming over me. “You left with Snowfang after the medical center, didn’t you? Is that why you’re acting like this now? Have you forgotten who your mate is?”

I almost laughed, a sharp, bitter sound escaping me. “You think this is about Nathan? You really are grasping at straws, Arthur. This is about you, your decisions, your absolute inability to see what you’ve done to me!”

He reached forward suddenly, grabbing my arm and pulling me into his chest. His Alpha presence wrapped around me, as familiar as it was infuriating. His grip wasn’t forceful, but it was enough to halt my movements.

“I’m sorry,” he murmured, his voice softened, almost pleading. “I know I’ve been wrong. I shouldn’t have said what I did before.”

The apology would’ve mattered three years ago-maybe even two. Now, it only felt hollow. A weightless whisper in the face of the destruction he had caused.

“You’re sorry,” I repeated, my laugh hollow as I glared up at him. “That has to be the most insignificant thing you’ve ever said to me.”

“Audrey-“

“No.” I pulled back, shaking my head as he refused to release me completely. “You don’t get to stand here and apologize like it fixes anything. Your words don’t matter anymore, Arthur. Not when your actions tell me everything.”

His Alpha aura surged once again. “You’re hiding something.”

I said nothing.

Frustrated by my silence, he growled low in his throat. “Whatever it is, you can’t keep shutting me out. Do you really think someone like Nathan Snowfang-“

“Don’t bring him into this!” I shouted suddenly, my voice louder than even I expected.

Arthur’s expression hardened as I pointed a trembling finger at him.

“This isn’t about Nathan. It’s about us. Or what’s left of us.” My hand dropped back to my side as defeat pulsed through my chest like a dull throb. “And you… you’ve already chosen which side you’re on.”

The words hung there, heavy and undeniable.

“Go to her, Arthur,” I said finally, my tone flat and void of my previous anger. “Like you always do. Like I know you will. Let me move on.”

He didn’t move. He watched me with eyes that hinted at something deeper-a question, a choice.

But at this moment, I knew whatever choice he made wouldn’t change the inevitable outcome.

I turned away, blinking back the unshed tears threatening to cloud my vision. “If you won’t let me go, Arthur, I’ll make you.”

His silence followed me into the dark night as I walked away.
