Alpha’s Regret After His Pregnant Luna Left novel Chapter 84

(Audrey’s POV)

My whole body trembled with rage and grief. I could still feel the texture of Victoria’s skin beneath my fingers, still smell the metallic scent of her blood. Arthur held me firmly but gently, his presence somehow both comforting and infuriating.

“Daniel!” Arthur suddenly barked, his voice cutting through the tense silence. “What the hell are you doing just standing there? Are you stupid?”

I glanced over to see Arthur’s personal Beta hovering awkwardly by the door, his expression uncertain as he watched the scene unfold.

Daniel immediately sprang into action, moving toward Victoria who was still slumped dramatically against the wall, the silver letter opener protruding from her abdomen.

“Yes, Alpha. Right away,” he said, carefully helping Victoria to her feet.

“Get her to the Alpha Council Medical Center,” Arthur commanded, his tone leaving no room for argument. “And try not to let her blood drip on Audrey’s floor.”

Victoria winced as Daniel supported her weight, shooting me a venomous glare even through her pain. As Daniel guided her toward the door, I noticed him awkwardly positioning himself to catch any blood droplets before they could hit my hardwood floors.

The door closed behind them, leaving Arthur and me alone in a room that suddenly felt too small, too intimate.

“Let me see your hands,” Arthur said softly, his tone completely different from the commanding Alpha voice he’d used with Daniel just moments ago.

I looked down at my trembling hands. My knuckles were bruised from striking Victoria, and there were tiny cuts where my own claws had dug into my palms.

“It’s nothing,” I mumbled, trying to pull away.

But Arthur was persistent, gently taking my hands in his and leading me to the kitchen sink. With surprising tenderness, he turned on the water, testing the temperature before guiding my hands beneath the stream.

“Your wolf got the better of you,” he observed, his voice free of judgment as he carefully washed away the traces of Victoria’s blood from my skin.

I winced slightly as the water hit my raw knuckles.

“You should know,” I replied bitterly. “Your wolf has been getting the better of you for years.”

I expected anger, defensiveness, or at least irritation. Instead, Arthur merely nodded, his expression solemn as he continued to gently clean my wounds.

“Hold still,” he murmured, reaching for a clean dish towel to pat my hands dry.

His gentleness was disarming. This was the Arthur I had glimpsed in our early days together-considerate, attentive, putting my needs before his own. It had been so long since I’d seen this side of him that it felt almost like encountering a stranger.

He frowned suddenly, his eyes focused on my face.

“You’re bleeding,” he said, reaching up to touch my lower lip.

I hadn’t even noticed, but now that he mentioned it, I could taste the coppery tang of blood. In my fury, I must have bitten down hard enough to break skin.

Arthur dampened a corner of the towel and gently dabbed at my split lip. His face was so close to mine that I could feel his breath, warm against my skin.

“Does it hurt?” he asked quietly.

“Everything hurts,” I replied honestly.

Something flickered in his eyes-guilt, perhaps, or remorse. He continued to clean the small wound with such care that I felt a traitorous warmth spreading through my chest.

How pathetic, I thought bitterly. After all this time, after everything he’d done, a few gentle gestures were enough to make my heart flutter? I was still that same naive girl, so easily soothed by rare moments of affection.

I stepped back abruptly, putting distance between us.

“What are you going to do about Victoria?” I asked, my voice stronger now, more steady.

Arthur’s expression shifted, the gentleness receding behind his usual mask of Alpha authority.

“What do you want me to do?” he countered, watching me carefully.

“Charge her with the United Council of Wolves,” I said immediately. “For intentionally causing the death of my-our-unborn pups.”

Arthur sighed, running a hand through his dark hair. “It would be difficult to prove,” he said slowly. “She also lost her pups in the incident.”

“Because she deliberately caused it!” I exclaimed, feeling my anger rising again. “She admitted it to me, Arthur. She planned it!”

“It would be her word against yours,” he replied. “And without concrete evidence…”

“So we do nothing?” I challenged, my hands clenching into fists at my sides. “She gets away with killing our children?”

Arthur’s jaw tightened. “I didn’t say that.”

I studied his face, taking in the worry etched across his features, the barely contained panic in his eyes. Despite his claims, despite everything that had happened between them, Arthur still cared deeply for Victoria.

“You’re still in love with her,” I said quietly. It wasn’t a question.

Arthur froze, his hand on the doorknob. “This isn’t about love,” he insisted. “It’s about my responsibility as Alpha. I need to give the order for her treatment.”

But I could see the truth in the tension of his shoulders, the urgency in his movements. He was desperate to get to her, to make sure she was safe.

“Go,” I said, suddenly exhausted. “Just go.”

He hesitated, conflict clear in his expression. “Audrey-”

“I want her gone,” I interrupted firmly. “As soon as she’s discharged from the medical center, I want her out of this territory. Promise me that much, at least.”

Arthur nodded slowly. “I’ll… think about it.”

Empty words. We both knew he wouldn’t follow through, wouldn’t inflict such punishment on Victoria, regardless of what she’d done. He would never hurt someone he loved, not like that.

Not like he’d hurt me.

Without another word, he left, the door closing behind him with a soft click that somehow felt more final than a slam would have.

I stood in the middle of my living room, surrounded by the aftermath of violence and betrayal, feeling more alone than I had in years.

The silence was broken by the ringing of my phone. I picked it up without checking the caller ID, my voice flat as I answered.

“Hello?”

“Audrey?” George Thompson’s familiar voice came through the line. “I have the results of the odor analysis on the medicine bag we found in Elder William’s room.”

My heart skipped a beat, momentarily pushing aside my despair. “And?”

“The results are in,” he confirmed, his tone grave. “And you need to hear this.”
