The Apology from My Ex and His Mistress novel Chapter 3

She opened the door and sat in the passenger seat.

Glancing at him, she saw that he was still dressed in the same outfit from yesterdaythe one she had picked out for him.

Over the years, she had always taken care of everything for him, ranging from his perfume, ties, to his customtailored shirts and suits.

You’re late,he said.

She withdrew her gaze.

I’m not,she said.

She just didn’t arrive early to wait for him like she used to.

His finger tapping the steering wheel paused slightly as he frowned at her.

Her face was slightly pale. Perhaps she didn’t sleep a wink last night after their conversation.

But it didn’t matter.

Grandma called me,he looked away and said. Don’t tell her and Grandpa about the divorce. They’re getting old, and I don’t want them to be agitated.

Neither of them spoke for a long time.

Minutes passed before Stephanie let out a chuckle.

Maxwell clenched his left hand into a fist, staring outside the window in silence.

Truth be told, he had wondered what his kid would look like and when they might be born.

While in bed with Stephanie, he had stroked her belly and whispered in her ear gently, Steph, when are you gonna give me a child?

He thought, Well, Stephanie isn’t pregnant anyway. Nothing is stopping me from getting a divorce.

We’ll get remarried in six months. We can always have a child after that.

Roxie, however, only has six months left.

Passersby came and went outside the Maybach.

After a few seconds, Stephanie said, Max, I’ll ask you one last time- are you really gonna divorce me?

Don’t tell me you’re having second thoughts,he fumed.

Roxanne was waiting for him at home.

Hearing his reply, Stephanie nodded and then handed him a document.

Frowning, he took it over. It was a property division agreement.

She said, Since we’re getting a divorce, let’s make everything clear.

During the coolingoff period, our income remains separate property..

With that, she put a pen next to the agreement.

Sign it if you’re OK with it,she continued.

Maxwell’s frown deepened as he fixed his eyes on the agreement.

There was nothing wrong with the terms, and she had already signed.

But he didn’t get it.

They’d get remarried in six months. Was the property division agreement really necessary?

Roxanne only had six months left.

After that, he’d get back together with Stephanie, which was what his grandparents wanted.
