After all, she had tried to frame Roxanne by fabricating a chat record.
She hated Roxanne.
He scoffed inwardly.
Then he decisively picked up the pen and signed his name on the agreement.
Nobody ever got to blackmail him!
There were two copies.
Stephanie took hers.
Then they got out of the car, entered the courthouse, and submitted the paperwork.
Then they kept the case number receipt.
Once the cooling–off period ended, they’d come back for their divorce certificates.
As they walked out of the courthouse, they saw the sun hanging high in the sky.
Basking in sunlight, Stephanie felt warm.
Maxwell looked at all the people coming and going.
He could easily tell which were soon–to–be–exes.
A couple walked past him hand in hand.

The woman was smiling sweetly.
All of a sudden, it occurred to him that Stephanie had worn that same sweet smile when they got married a year ago.
He glanced at Stephanie.
She remained expressionless.
“I’ll still keep transferring money to your account during the cooling- off period,” he said. “Remember–keep this from my grandparents.”
After saying this, he left without waiting for her reply.
She watched as his Maybach disappeared around the corner.
Soon, her ride was here.
They went their separate ways.
Maxwell drove to Everbloom Floral Studio.
And she arrived at Northpine Hospital.
He opened the door to the studio and was met with Roxanne’s warm smile.
Taking out the receipt, he said, “It’s done. She didn’t make a scene.”
Meanwhile, Stephanie walked into the Gynecology Department.
She sat opposite the doctor, who drew the curtain closed.
“Steph, are you sure you wanna get rid of the baby?”
The doctor, who was also her bestie, McKayla Clark, seemed worried. “But you’ve always wanted a baby. You even asked me for tips to improve your chances.”

“Yeah,” Stephanie said calmly.
“For sure.”
McKayla glanced at Stephanic in surprise.
They had been besties for almost twenty years, and she, of all people, knew how crazy Stephanie was about Maxwell.
In the past, Stephanie could have died for Maxwell without hesitation.
A year ago, Stephanie married Maxwell. While disapproving of the union, she was happy knowing Stephanie had finally gotten what she had always wanted.
But now…
What happened?
“I don’t love him anymore,” Stephanie said before McKayla opened her mouth.
Looking at McKayla, she smiled brightly.
For a second, McKayla felt that she saw that proud, confident Stephanie before the Shelton family’s ruin and her father Elliot Shelton’s death.
