Of course, McKayla knew what Stephanie was thinking, but there was nothing she could do. She sighed softly before helping Stephanie downstairs via the elevator.
With a ding, the elevator doors opened on the first floor.
The hospital seemed particularly crowded today, and Stephanie even saw reporters.
“Why are there so many people here? And reporters, too? There must be some celebrity here. They always make a fuss…” McKayla muttered, looking displeased. Just then, she saw someone. Her expression changed immediately as she quickly wanted to pull Stephanie the other
way.
But it was too late.
Stephanie had already spotted two familiar figures.
The man was tall, handsome, and imposing. Though the hospital was packed with people, his meticulously styled hair and bespoke suit remained impeccable.
The woman next to him was petite and frail. Her pale face suggested she was ill, which made her seem even more pitiful.
Suddenly, she stumbled upon something, and he immediately pulled her into his arms, shielding her from onlookers‘ gazes.
It was Maxwell and Roxanne.
“Don’t look at those shameless pair!” Utterly pissed off, McKayla

cursed while trying to block Stephanie’s line of sight.
“Kayla, let’s go,” Stephanie said in a comforting tone. She didn’t want Maxwell to know why she was here, nor did she want to have an encounter with him and Roxanne here.
“What? Why?” McKayla was even more furious. “You’re in the cooling–off period, not divorced. How could Maxwell show up public with her just like this? Does he remember he’s still your husband? What a jerk!”
Her husband?
Stephanie withdrew her gaze.
Once upon a time, she had been over the moon over such an address.
But now…
“Kayla, I don’t feel well. Let’s get out of here, alright?” She changed the subject.
McKayla’s attention was immediately distracted, and she no longer glanced at the two in the distance.
As Stephanie left, Roxanne, who was surrounded by the crowd, glanced over.
A glint of complacency flashed in her eyes.
“Max, I’m so sorry that you got stuck here with me.” She seemed utterly guilty, “I know you hate dealing with media reporters. But I…”
“No worries. Let’s go to the doctor.” Maxwell’s expression unchanged.
For a fleeting moment, something quickly flashed in his heart.

Chapter 7
Too bad that he failed to grasp it.
They walked into the doctor’s office together.
Roxanne handed the doctor her medical record.
The doctor’s frown deepened..
“I’m afraid things aren’t looking good, Ms. Gregg,” he said.
She forced a smile and said softly, “I know.”
Taking a deep breath, she continued, “If I may, can I have some painkillers? The strong ones.
“Given your condition, I suggest hospitalization,” the doctor said, fixing his gaze on her medical record. “Receiving proper treatment is the only way to prolong your life.”
