Betrayed and Dumped: She Rose Stronger Than Ever novel Chapter 41

The assistant looked a little embarrassed as she motioned for them to follow. “Right this way, please.”

With her leading the way, Rebecca and Justin walked straight into the meeting room, no obstacles in sight.

“Please have a seat.” The assistant said before slipping out.

While they waited, Rebecca and Justin set up their laptops and connected to the big display at the front of the room.

Justin glanced over. “Ms. Harper, do you want to do the talking, or should I?”

“I’ll handle it,” Rebecca replied.

She had led the latest product update herself. She knew exactly what Meridian Tech wanted—and honestly, she was the best person for the job.

A few minutes later, Scott walked in. He wore an apologetic smile and tried to sound sincere. “Sorry about that. The receptionist made a mistake. I already had HR speak to her. I apologize for the mix-up.”

Everyone could tell he was just going through the motions, but nobody bothered to call him out.

No one wanted to argue with someone pretending to be nice.

If Scott wanted to put on a show, Rebecca would play along.

“Don’t worry. Mistakes happen to everyone. I’m glad it’s sorted out,” she said, clicking to the first slide and looking right at him. “Shall we start?”

Scott grinned. “Of course. Please, Ms. Harper, go ahead.”

For the first ten minutes, Scott looked like he was paying attention, nodding here and there. But it didn’t last long. Soon, he was staring at his phone, totally checked out.

Rebecca noticed, smiled to herself, and quietly signaled Justin to pick up the presentation.

Scott was so busy texting Sonja that he didn’t even realize someone else had taken over.

As Rebecca sat down, she caught a glimpse of his screen, shocked.

She hadn’t expected Sonja to be Scott’s friend from university. They seemed to be chatting about what would happen once NovaStack Cloud landed the contract.

Rebecca’s heart dropped.

That’s just how business worked. Skill and connections were two separate things. If you had both, you were unstoppable.

She thought for a moment, then made up her mind.

Rebecca put her phone down. Under the table, out of sight, she clenched her fist.
