Betrayed and Dumped: She Rose Stronger Than Ever novel Chapter 56

Lottie carried the file upstairs. When she opened the door to the private room, only Sonja was waiting inside.

Sonja waved her over. “Come on, Lottie, take a seat.”

Lottie took a seat, lowering her voice. “Where’s Mr. Lamont?”

Sonja leaned in a little. “Stephen Duncan, the CEO of Duncan Corporation, is next door. He went to toast him.”

Lottie’s heart skipped. Stephen was right there, just on the other side of the wall. Her thoughts started to race.

Everyone in Coralbridge had heard of the Duncan family. Everyone knew about Stephen Duncan, the young, incredibly rich CEO who ran it all. He was hot, single, and the most eligible bachelor in town.

Lottie used to watch him on TV and daydream. If she could marry Stephen, she’d have everything—power, money, respect. But she knew that kind of fantasy was useless.

Stephen kept a low profile and rarely showed up in public, so she never even had a chance to meet him. And even if the Bernan family wanted to get close to someone like him, they’d pick their other daughter, not her.

Once that reality set in, Lottie stopped letting herself dream.

Still, just hearing Stephen was so close made her heart flutter.

Sonja had no idea what was going through Lottie’s mind. She smiled and gestured toward the client. “Lottie, this is Drew. Give him the contract to sign, will you? I’m going to the restroom.”

Lottie hesitated. She’d never handled a client on her own before, but she did what Sonja said.

She took out the contract and a pen, then handed them to Drew with both hands. “Sir, here’s the contract. There are two copies. Please sign on the last page.”

Drew looked to be about fifty, his face flushed from drinking. He grinned at her, sizing her up, then patted the seat next to him. “Come, sit here.”

Lottie felt awkward, but with Sonja gone, she didn’t know what else to do. She sat down as he asked.

“How old are you? What’s your job at NovaStack Cloud?” He barely finished before reaching for her hand, his tone way too familiar.

A wave of disgust washed over Lottie, but since he was a client, she forced herself not to pull away too quickly. She quietly slipped her hand out of reach and answered stiffly, “I’m twenty-four. Sonja’s assistant.”
