Betrayed and Dumped: She Rose Stronger Than Ever novel Chapter 77

Bruce stepped into his apartment, flicked on the lights, and slipped off his shoes by the door. He headed straight for the bathroom to shower off the exhaustion clinging to him. As soon as he finished, his stomach started making desperate noises, reminding him that he hadn’t eaten in a while. He wandered into the kitchen, planning to whip up some instant noodles.

The moment he crossed the threshold, a wave of horrible stench slammed into him. It was so bad he nearly gagged right there. With one hand pinching his nose, Bruce searched for the source and found it quickly—the pot from three days ago still held the leftover ramen broth, now soured and reeking.

His temples throbbed. Bruce slumped onto the living room sofa, ready to call the cleaning lady and give her a piece of his mind. But as he scrolled through his contacts, he realized he didn’t even have her number. Rebecca had always handled stuff like that. She took care of everything in the apartment, big or small, so he could focus on his work without distractions.

Now Rebecca was gone, and she hadn’t just left—she’d ended things between them without warning.

Bruce dialed Rebecca’s number right away, but she didn’t answer. With no other option, he went back to the kitchen, holding his breath and cleaning up the mess himself. Once the smell was finally gone, he opened the fridge, only to find it completely empty.

His frustration spiked. He stormed back to the living room, and just then, his phone lit up with a call. It was Rebecca.

He picked up, pressing his fingers to the bridge of his nose, feeling every bit of his exhaustion in his voice. “Rebecca, stop this already. Come back, will you?” He was never good with sweet words, but he forced himself to add, “I can’t do this without you.”

Rebecca pulled her phone away, scowling at the caller ID to make sure it was really him before answering. “I thought I made myself clear. We’re over. Please don’t contact me again.”

“Hold on,” Bruce said, frowning. “The cleaning lady hasn’t come in days. Can you check what’s going on?”

Rebecca replied, “Her contract ended three days ago.”

“Why didn’t you renew it?”

“Your affairs are no longer my concern.” Rebecca rolled her eyes even though he couldn’t see her. Was he expecting her to pay for the cleaning service now? Back when she loved him, she hadn’t minded covering the bill. Now they were over. Why on earth should she keep paying?

“You…” Bruce clenched his jaw, but before he could finish, she hung up.
