Stephen kept his tone easy and respectful. “Everyone knows Duncan Corporation mostly works in finance and internet services. We’re honestly just getting started in FinTech, so I’m here to learn from all of you. That’s really the reason I came today.”
He smiled, a little self-deprecating. “Yeah, we set up a FinTech branch, but it’s still pretty small. Our products haven’t made much of a splash yet, so I’m hoping to pick up some tips from the pros.”
He paused, glancing over his shoulder. “By the way, I’d like to introduce someone…” Stephen searched the crowd, ready to bring Rebecca into the conversation. As the CEO of Sunforge Tech, she was bound to cross paths with these industry leaders sooner or later, and with Stephen’s support, she’d be on the fast track up. But when he looked around, Rebecca was nowhere to be found. She must have gotten lost in the sea of men crowding around.
Stephen let out a helpless laugh. “Looks like my best player has vanished. I’ll have to introduce her later.”
Rebecca had only been a step behind Stephen, but the moment the group surged forward, she’d been edged out, left staring at the swarm closing in on him. With no way through, she could only watch as Stephen disappeared behind a wall of suits. It wasn’t so bad, though. The product displays lining the room quickly caught her attention. Inside glass cases, each company showed off their latest innovations. Rebecca took her time studying everything, soaking up new trends and snapping photos of anything that stood out. These little details might turn into inspiration for Sunforge Tech’s next big idea.
She also took note of a few smaller companies. Even if they weren’t big, their teams were sharp and their products unique. Some were clearly leading their own corners of the market. Rebecca quietly typed their names into her phone, making a mental note to dig deeper into their work later.
While she was focused on her notes, Bruce and Sonja walked in and spotted her jotting down company names. Bruce stopped short, surprise flickering across his face before his expression cooled. He hadn’t expected to see Rebecca here. This forum was packed with top-tier professionals, people who were experts or higher in their companies. How had Rebecca even scored an invite? Then again, after years in marketing, she probably had plenty of connections who could get her in with a single call.
