Chapter 35
Max’s POV
I handed the big, burly man a card. He peered at it for a moment before waving me in. I took one last, long look around before walking inside. The adjoining door led me to a private lounge, dimly lit with soft music playing in the background.
I room carrying drinks. 1.
A few people lingered in different corners, and the servers, both male and female, wore flimsy dresses as they moved across the re squinted, scanning for her briefly, and then I saw her, with her back to me, I walked up to her and sat across from her without a word
She leaned back in her chair, crossing one leg over the other. She wore a black bube dress that clung to her slender figure and high–heeled shoes. “Shots,” she offered, pushing a small tray toward me,
I sat up straight. “No, I’m here to talk, and I need to be clear–headed when I do it.”
A hint of a smile played on her lips, her bright blue eyes boring into me as she took a sip of her wine. My gaze wandered to her blood red nails curling around the glass, a perfect match to the liquid swirling within. “You said you wanted to see me…” Her calm voice pulled me out of my wandering
thoughts
Topened my mouth to speak, but the words wouldn’t come, and then I blurted out, “Why did you sleep with me?” I was genuinely curious. In the weeks I’d spent without by, I’d had enough time to think. Taylor was the one who made the first move. Admittedly, I didn’t put up much resistance and fell easily to her wiles. It left me wondering why. As far as I knew, Taylor and Ivy were best friends, almost like sisters.
She shrugged, the simplest response. “It was just sex, Max. Nothing more.” She let the words hang, softening her smile as I digested them.
It wasn’t what I wanted to hear, and she knew it. I saw it in the mischievous twinkle in her eyes.
I chuckled. “See, I know it wasn’t just sex, Taylor. I know you better than that. You were getting nothing out of it. You didn’t want anything I had-”
“You had nothing to give,” she cut in
I nodded. “Well, fair enough. I didn’t give you anything, and yet we had sex every other day. So why? What was it to you? What did you get out of all of it?”
“A couple of orgasms here and there, nothing more,” she answered.
I wasn’t expecting an answer, at least not that answer.
My expression hardened, and I felt a flicker of desperation, I usually felt it whenever I thought about her lately. “I want hy back.” I didn’t even know if my words were informing her or accusatory.
She arched an eyebrow. “And how exactly does that concern me?” The words slipped out slowly, faced with indifference.
It was unnerving how she always managed to stay calm. It was hard to tell what she was thinking because of that sick, twisted smile always on her lips. My plan to win by back wasn’t her concern, truly, but as the hours stretched between us, I began to regret calling her here. But I had questions only she could answer.
“Ivy was
s your best friend… Iuld
“And she was your girtiend,” she replied, her tone sharp
I studied the blank expression on her face, and then my lips curled into a smile at the realization, “You know, you’re a really horrible person, Taylor..
She looked unfazed. “Why do you think so?” she asked.
I scooted closer to her. “I have a feeling it wasn’t just casual sex for you. It doesn’t matter how hard you try to make it look like it was, you know it wasn’t You have a bone to pick with Ivy… My eyes searched her face desperately for answers. I wanted it all to unravel, but she wasn’t giving me anything Somehow, her silence told me everything/“I don’t know how long it’s been there, how long you’ve hated Ivy’s guts even though you two were practically sisters.”

Chapter 35
She refilled her glass and hummed softly between sips. “That’s Interesting
“But you hate her now for some reason, I’m willing to bet it’s jealousy…” I watched, hoping for a reaction, but she gave me nothing, it has You want what she has. You’ve wanted it for the longest time. That’s the only reason you came to me. I had nothing to offer you except
hers…”
“That’s an elaborate imagination, Max,” she commented, a smile on her lips.
Iscooted closer. “You don’t deny it. There must be some truth to what I’m saying, then Frustration built up. She wasn’t giving me what I wanted Her smile was unnerving. I wanted more. I needed confirmation from her, “I want to win her back, and never stop trying!” I swore
already knew that. At first, I felt only bitterness when she left. It grew even more when i found out she was with another man. But as the days crawled by, I realized how much I depended on Ivy. She was the one who put in effort in the relationship, sparing rio expense for me. It was simple: I wanted her back because I was flat out broke.
“Good luck with that, I guess,” she said, raising her glass to me.
