Chapter 44
Asher’s POV
My eyelids fluttered open, and I took a moment to adjust to the sharp lighting in the room. Sunlight streamed through the wide open windows. I got op with a start, my head throbbing, a dull ache stubbornly lingering behind my temples, Imastaged them as my eyes scanned the unfantiar surroundings I wasn’t at home, nor was at Lucas’s place. Pulling off the blanket, I got out of bed. My gaze landed on a card in the pocket by the door.
I grabbed it and peered at it–Diamond Crystal Hotel. Raking my fingers through my hair, I sighed exasperatedly, I knew this hotel; it was in my city, but had no idea how I ended up here. My memory was foggy. I grabbed a bottle of water, suddenly feeling parched, and downed it in one gulp. I rubbed the bridge of my nose, trying to soothe the ache in my head.
Fragments of the previous night slowly came to me. I glanced down at myself, I was still wearing yesterday’s clothes a black silk shirt, black trousers, belt, and shoes. It looked like had just walked in and collapsed into bed. Fcaught a glimpse of my reflection in the mirror, my eyes looked dull and tired, my hair sticking out oddly from repeatedly running my fingers through it. As I tried to smooth it down, a few images flached in my head again – drunk Ivy, the strain in my pants….
I sighed in exasperation, “What the heck did you do last night, Asher?” i muttered to myself. I struggled to recall pushing away by’s kisses. It was hard, but I remembered leaving, wanting to put as much distance between us as possible because I didn’t trust myself not to touch her I didn’t want to take advantage of her.
I had called Luca and met him at a club. My eyes widened like saucers – Taylor. Taylor was there. I could remember the look in her eyes and her grueling questions. I couldn’t shake off the image of her staring down at me as she slowly danced to the music. Luca’s hands wrapped around her. Aber that, it was just……. blackness. Nothing. Tremembered nothing.
I grabbed my phone off the bedside table and dialed Luca, my heart racing. The ringing sounded unbearably loud, jagged against the silence, worsening my headache.
There was a huge gap in my memory, and had no recollection whatsoever. I needed to remember. Taylor was there fremembered exchanging a few words with her, but then what?
Luca picked up on the third ring. “Asher,” he groaned, sounding groggy
I skipped the pleasantries and went straight to the point. “What the heck happened to me, Luca!”
There was a pause, followed by a heavy sigh. “Honestly, Ash? It’s…” He hesitated, “Shit It’s mid–afternoon.”
I rolled my eyes. “No shit, Sherlock”
He groaned loudly. “What is it, Ashi
I was getting imitated “I woke up this morning at the Diamond Crystal Hotel,”
“The one on Fifth Street?” he asked.
“Yes,” I answered, not sure where he was going with this.
“Oh, that’s a good one. Their service is top-
“Stay on track, Luca!“I snapped. “Are you high?”
“Okay, okay, fine. Just a little. You woke me up, remember?” he retorted.
theaved a deep sigh, running my fingers through my hair. This was serious, and I was panicking. “I don’t remember checking in. I don’w how ven got here. I don’t remember how the rest of my night went, and that’s a lot of time unaccounted for.”
“You should ask the receptionist. The guys at the desk who checked you in- they might remember something.” Luca suggested.
“I’m not going to reception to look them ip the eye and say that I, Asher Storting, had a wild night and can’t remember a thing trailed off, letting him piece it together.

“Ha ha ha, not funny”
“Your brother is going to gloat to hard,” he chimed in. “But seriously, if you were as shit–faced as I remember, the news is already out. Ho one would pass up the chance to snap pictures of Asher Sterling looking like a mess.”
I bowed my head. “I’m never hanging out with you again.”

I sighed; he was right. Last night, however, I had little choice, I needed a distraction, and then Taylor showed up.
“Yeah, that’s right. I do remember something.
My ears perked up.
