"Mr. Blackwell," Shadow entered and handed Adrian a small capsule. "This is what was emitting the toxic gas. It was delivered by drone."
Adrian pinched the tiny capsule, already guessing who was behind it.
"How did the drones get in?"
The entire Grey Zone was protected by a defense grid. Any intruding object should have been shot down immediately.
Shadow explained, "The drones were equipped with advanced jammers. We managed to shoot one down, but they're tiny—barely bigger than this capsule—and they came in swarms, so some got through."
"I had someone run a comparison. The drones are from Damien Richard's company."
Damien Richard was Evelyn's husband. Adrian let out a cold snort and got up, heading back to the bedroom.
Isabel had been watching from the window, extremely worried about Edmund and Evelyn's safety.
Adrian was a lunatic.
Her mind raced, trying to find a solution, so she didn't notice the door open until a pair of arms wrapped around her from behind.
"So eager to see that boy of yours? Perhaps I should bring him here to keep you company."
"No!" Isabel said instantly, then realized her mistake. "I don't know what you're talking about, but you leave him alone, or I'll take you down with me."
Adrian chuckled and handed her the capsule.
Isabel glanced at the tiny object, her suspicions confirmed.
Edmund and Evelyn were here, but she didn't know if Julian was with them.
"Are you thinking about Julian?" Adrian turned her around and pressed her against the floor-to-ceiling window. "Don't bother. Julian's body is probably rotting by now."
"What?" Isabel lunged, her hands flying to his throat. The chain rattled violently with her movement. "If anything happens to Julian, I swear I'll take you down with me."
"Isabel," Adrian remained calm, letting her choke him. "How many lives do you have? You want to save everyone?"
"But I can give you a chance. If you want them to live, you'll come back to me. Be like you were before, take care of my daily needs, take care of our son."
"Did you know the boy has been sick ever since you left?"
