The smell of butter and eggs drifted through the air. I had just finished showering, and now, I was standing by the doorway, watching Abel in the kitchen.

He was standing by the stove, sleeves rolled up and hair tousled from bed. He looked completely out of place and yet somehow, perfect.

1 leaned against the doorframe, watching him quietly for a moment. There was a small frown of concentration on his face, and when one pancake almost slipped, he muttered something under his breath that made me bite back a laugh.

Good morning,I finally said, grinning.

You’re done showering?he asked, like that wasn’t obvious.

Yeah. I could smell the food, so I hurried up,” I teased, walking closer. You’re cooking for me?

He gave a small shrug, trying to play it off. You didn’t eat properly last night.”

I smiled wider. This is the first time I’m seeing you watching for me in this house. It’s usually precooked the moment I wake up.

He didn’t answer, but the faintest tinge of red crept up his neck. I almost pointed it out, but decided to spare his pride.

The table was already settoast, eggs, bacon, fruit, even a little leftover chocolate cake from last night. He’d made so much food it could’ve fed five people.

My stomach growled at the sight. I didn’t even pretend to be polite. This looks amazing!I said, sliding into the chair and grabbing a fork.

Abel sat across from me, arms crossed, silently watching as I dug in. The first bite melted in my mouth, buttery and perfect. I moaned softly.

He raised a brow. You’re eating like you haven’t seen food in days.

Because this is good!I insisted. I think this might be the best breakfast I’ve ever had. Well, only second to my mother’s breakfast.

I saw the corner of his lips lift, causing me to grin, too. Victory.

Between bites of eggs and toast, I reached for the last slice of chocolate cake. He frowned, but didn’t stop me. I took a forkful and licked the frosting from the tip of the fork, savoring it. The sweetness was perfect.

That was when I heard him clear his throat.

I looked up. Abel was staring at me before he quickly looked away. You really like sweet things,he said, his tone a little lower than usual.

Yeah,I said, happily oblivious. You said you liked them too, right?

Not really,he muttered.

What?I tilted my head to the side. You said so last night.”

His eyes flickered back to medown, specificallyto my lips. My heart skipped.

Just one sweet thing.”

What do you mean?

He was already looking away again, reaching for his pure black coffee like nothing had happened. My pulse was still fluttering as I tried to process that. Sweet thing? Did he mean? No. No. Luna. Don’t overthink it.

I cleared my throat. You don’t have work today?

He shook his head. No.

Really?I asked, surprised. He rarely took a break.

He nodded once, eyes focused on his mug. We’re going somewhere else today.

We?I repeated, setting my fork down.

Yes.”

That made me sit up straighter. Where are we going?

He finally met my eyes. Back to Ylarc.”

I froze. Ylarc?

My voice came out softer than I intended.

I swallowed. Why?

There’s something you need to see,he said finally.

The waters were calm that morning. The yacht hummed quietly beneath my feet, cutting smoothly across the small waves. I leaned against the railing, watching the foam rise and disappear in streaks.

This was Rowan’s yacht, as I had heard. I knew how influential they were, but they were really loaded, too.

Meanwhile, Abel was standing at the helm, hands firm on the wheel. His sleeves were rolled up. the light catching the veins in his arms.

You still haven’t told me what we’re going to do at Ylarc,” I said. You know, I don’t like surprises.

He didn’t glance back. You’ll see,he murmured.

I sighed, tapping my fingers on the railing. I was both excited and nervous. Excited, because I had already texted Marcel. She’d replied almost instantlyI’ll be free after class, meet you at the cafe in front of school? I’d said yes before I even thought twice. It had been weeks since I last saw her.

However, I was nervous, too. The thought of seeing Queenie and Princess made my stomach twist. Both of them were parts of a past I didn’t want to remember.

What are we going to do there?I asked again, louder this time.

Something,he said.
