Breaking Mr. Cold (Giselle and Donovan) novel Chapter 651

Marselle asked, "Ms. Holt, can I ask you something? You have to answer me honestly."

"What is it?" Giselle looked puzzled.

"Did you ever actually love Gideon?"

Giselle froze. "You know Gideon?"

"Yeah, I've known him for a few months. Stop dodging the question. Just answer me."

Seeing the tension in Marselle's expression, Giselle suddenly seemed to understand what this was really about.

"I wouldn't call it love," Giselle admitted, though her tone held a hint of vagueness. "Mr. Grayson really helped me a lot. What I feel for him is mostly guilt and a sense of owing him. If he ever finds someone he truly cares about, someone who can make him happy, I'd honestly be glad for him."

Marselle understood perfectly well what that implied, and she didn't press further.

The moment she saw Giselle up close, she finally understood why Gideon couldn't let this woman go. She had to admit that if she were a man looking at a face like Giselle's, she would have fallen for her too.

In Marselle's world, the women who were richer or more well-connected than her couldn't match her looks, and the ones who were prettier didn't have her status or wealth.

Now that she had seen Giselle, she felt a trace of insecurity and disappointment for the first time in her life. It was the first real blow she had ever taken.

"Fine. I hope you mean what you just said," Marselle finally said after stewing in silence for a while. She gave a dry little laugh. "Honestly, I just think Gideon's pitiful. He was abandoned again and again as a kid, and later, you nearly broke him. I worried he might not be able to handle it and do something stupid, so I figured I should at least try to be his friend."
