Benjamin walked over and helped Donovan upstairs. Giselle followed them, as she would only be at the receiving end of the Kanes' passive-aggressiveness if she stayed here.

When Donovan lay down on the king-sized bed in the master bedroom and closed his eyes, memories of that brutal fight on the deserted island resurfaced in his mind. He still couldn't believe that he had survived, made it home, and was now lying on this soft mattress again.

Giselle couldn't resist walking around the room. She realized that her vanity table looked exactly the same as it had a year ago. Everything was lined up neatly, untouched. In the walk-in closet, her clothes, bags, shoes, and jewelry were all in perfect order, too.

The housekeepers had clearly been tending to it regularly. Not even a speck of dust had settled on her clothes.

Giselle had been missing for a whole year, yet every trace of her in this room had been meticulously preserved. It was almost as if she had never left and still slept here every night.

So, even when he thought she was dead, he never had the heart to clear out her belongings. He chose to live with them, holding onto every reminder of her.

While she was leaning against the closet door, lost in thought, the slightly ajar bedroom door was pushed open, and Dorothea walked in.

"I asked you all to leave," Donovan snapped. "Whatever you want to say can wait! Can't you see I'm trying to get some sleep here?"

Dorothea said, "Go ahead and sleep then. I want to have a word with Giselle. After all, she literally came back from the dead. I have so much I want to say to her."

"Leave her alone."

"It's okay. I'll go downstairs with Mrs. Kane." Giselle smiled. "It's been a while since we last saw each other, and she just found out I'm actually alive after believing I was dead. It's only natural that she has a lot of questions, and I don't mind answering them."

With that, Giselle followed Dorothea out of the room and down the stairs.
