Nicole’s marriage to Curtis involved both families.

“Nicole, don’t take everything your grandpa says at face value. Old folks get blind to the truth and always favor their own illegitimate kids,” Irene said, her voice dripping with mockery as she continued to smooth Nicole’s hair.

Nicole flinched slightly, looking at Irene nervously.

Irene’s expression softened. “Sorry, sweetheart, I didn’t mean to hurt you. Your hair is so dry. I’ll take you to get it treated one of these days.”

Nicole nodded.

Irene leaned back in the chair and deliberately slipped a few strands of Nicole’s hair into her handbag.

Meanwhile, Curtis had been called away by Harold, leaving Adriana alone on the couch.

Kelsey, frustrated after being bested by Irene, decided to vent some of her anger on Adriana to reclaim a bit of dignity.

“Nicole is back now. If you have any sense, you’ll go to Curtis and demand a divorce. Don’t wait for us to kick you out,” she scoffed from the side. “And don’t forget to take that bracelet off your wrist. That belongs to our family.”

Adriana calmly looked at Kelsey, recognizing her hysteria, and repeated gently, “Your family?”

Kelsey furrowed her brows, angered, slapping the table. “What do you mean by that?”

Adriana smiled faintly. “I’m just a little curious. From what Irene just said, you don’t seem to really belong to the Bartons. Your husband is Jeremy’s illegitimate child, right? The Barton name … comes from Jeremy’s wife’s family, doesn’t it?”

Adriana sniffled, feigning a sense of grievance as she looked at Curtis. “It’s nothing. Kelsey is right. I don’t belong here.”

Curtis’s face darkened instantly as he turned toward Kelsey. “And what’s your status, exactly?

Kelsey held back, then stormed angrily back to her room.

Irene smirked. “I’m in a good mood today with Nicole back, so I won’t stick around for dinner. See ya.”

“Finally!” Jeremy exhaled, relieved. “Alright, everyone, take your seats! I have an important announcement.”

Everyone settled down, and Jeremy looked at Matthew.
