"Ha!" Natalie laughed, a sharp, painful sound. Her heart twisted. What kind of monster had she married?
"In this life, I would rather die than ask you for anything. Because you're worse than a stranger. A stranger would help me up if they saw me fall on the street. But you, my husband, watched your own wife be humiliated and would only help if I begged. What do I need a man like you for?"
"I'm perfectly capable on my own. Why would I need a useless husband?"
"The only reason you didn't step in to help me was to protect Joanna."
Natalie's eyes reddened with fury. You could say he didn't understand love, but as a man, he spoiled Joanna to the heavens while being utterly stingy with his own wife. He had been so eager to divorce her before, but now he refused.
"Sebastian, if you won't agree to a divorce, I will file for one in court. I have evidence of your affair with Joanna on my phone. I will leave with nothing. A divorce is simple; it only takes ten minutes. I'm begging you, I don't want to be entangled with you rotten people anymore."
Her good mood was completely ruined by the sight of them.
Joanna, no longer in pain, leaned against Sebastian's arm and sobbed, "Sebastian, let's get a divorce, please? I was always the one you wanted to marry. You can't do this to me."
Sebastian jerked away, his handsome face filled with undisguised disgust.
"Joanna, I told you, if you bully my wife, if you plot against my wife, I will not marry you. The only reason I haven't touched the Scott family is as a final courtesy to you. Now, get out!"
Joanna froze, her eyes wide with disbelief as she cried. "No, Sebastian, she's the one plotting against me! She sets me up every time, and you're always there to see it! Why don't you believe me anymore?" She sobbed, her body trembling. She didn't understand. The Natalie who never used to fight back—how had she become so formidable?
Sebastian's dark eyes were cold and sharp, as if they could see into her soul. He gave a humorless smile. "Joanna, you took me for a fool because I was willing to indulge you. Now that I'm not, do you still think I'm a fool?"
"Great!" Natalie agreed cheerfully. "I get off work at five."
A meaningful smile played on Sebastian's lips. "I'll pick you up at five. We'll talk at home."
"No," Natalie said firmly. "There are plenty of places around here to talk. Why do we need to go to your house? It's a hassle for me to go back and forth. Or I can just come to your office."
The moment the words left her mouth, she felt the temperature around Sebastian plummet. The sharp lines of his face grew colder, his dark eyes unfathomable. "I said," he repeated, his tone leaving no room for argument, "I will pick you up. I'm sorry I didn't help you today."
Natalie was stunned. Was this man feeling okay?
