Nathan, let’s see who’s really going crazy. A curious, almost amused light danced in Wendy’s eyes. Starting tonight, she would make Nathan’s life a living hell.
When she reached the dining room, an elegant dinner was already laid out on the table. As she ate, she replayed the night’s events in her mind. Joanna was relentless in her scheming against Natalie. Now that she had the Wilsons on her side, she would only become more arrogant.
Meanwhile, Wendy was exhausted from trying to save the company, and her four sons were useless. She had to take this one step at a time. Secure the company, and then she would have the power to protect her children. It didn’t matter if they were spoiled; she would teach them, one by one.
Even that fool Jerome didn’t believe her. So this was what it felt like to be disbelieved. It was agonizing. Her daughter had endured so much of this, and they had never even bothered to listen to her explanations. Now it was her turn. The disbelief of her own children was a cold, sharp pain in her heart.
Joanna, you damn woman. You took my daughter from me. I will make you lose your entire family.
As she was finishing her meal, Nathan returned.
“Wendy! Wendy, listen to me! It’s not what you think!” he exclaimed, his face a mask of guilt. “I was set up!” Deny, deny, deny. That was the only way.
Wendy looked at him, her gaze cool and detached. “Nathan, I never knew you could get worked up over a woman in a public place like that. Funny, you haven’t shown any interest in me lately. I guess you found a new plaything outside.”
She wasn’t angry, not anymore. After discovering she’d been deceived for over two decades, she had cried for one night, and then the pain had vanished. Now, her eyes were unnervingly calm, which scared Nathan more than her rage.
Her voice was flat. “I don’t want the boys to know about this. After all these years, I’m not going to divorce you. But you will move out of this room.”
Nathan let out a breath he didn’t realize he was holding. There was still a chance to fix this.
“Okay, okay, Wendy. I know I’ve wronged you. I’ll move out tonight. I’ll be by your side every day from now on. My heart is truly with you.”
Wendy almost laughed. His heart? He called that other woman his wife. To him, she was just a stepping stone to wealth and power. And tonight was the beginning of his nightmare. By morning, he would learn who was really going mad.
