Wendy laughed, a cold, humorless sound. She was all too familiar with Nathan’s talent for turning the tables. He and Joanna had used the same tactics to suppress Natalie for years.
Wait a minute. He always targeted Natalie. Could it be that he knew? Is that why he abandoned her?
No, how could he possibly know?
Wendy’s eyes blazed with fury as she looked at the unfazed Nathan. "Nathan, I work myself to the bone for the company while you're here cozying up to another woman in front of everyone. And you have the audacity to call me jealous? Why don't you tell everyone how much your company lost last year and how I had to cover your debts?"
Nathan wanted to protect his image, but she was determined to tear it down.
The accusation hit its mark, and Nathan’s face fell. "Wendy, you… you can't say that. We're family."
"Family?" Wendy sneered. "You didn't seem to think about 'family' when you were flirting with her. You didn't think about 'family' when you were in bed with this woman. I caught you red-handed last time, and now you're drinking together again. Don't tell me you have no relationship!"
She was done being careful, done walking on eggshells. She's done taking it.
Nathan was stunned. The murmurs of the crowd grew louder, and his face burned with humiliation. He cherished his reputation, the good-husband persona he had cultivated his entire life, and Wendy had shattered it in a few sentences.
He tried to deflect again. "Wendy, lit was a misunderstanding. It was Natalie who set me up…"
"Mr. Scott," Natalie's voice cut in sharply, "at Mr. Wilson's party, you walked into that room of your own free will. Why do you keep trying to frame me?"
He faltered, a flicker of panic in his eyes. "Natalie, this is my family's private matter. It has nothing to do with you…"
"Your private matter? You keep slandering me, so how is it not my business? You cheat on your wife and then blame me for setting you up? The security footage is crystal clear. You weren't drunk, you weren't drugged. You walked in there yourself. So how is that my fault?"
Natalie took out her phone and dialed the police. She was done showing this vile man any mercy.
"Hello, police? Yes, someone here has repeatedly slandered me, even claiming in a live broadcast that I framed his daughter, which I never did. In fact, he and his daughter have framed me many times. I have evidence. I'd like to file a report. Thank you."
After giving the hotel's location, she hung up.
