Luna’s phone still wasn’t picking up. Natalie grew frantic. Luna had a stubborn streak and a tendency to get into fights. Worried she was hurt, Natalie looked at the GPS display on her car's large built-in screen, which showed Luna’s position had moved to the edge of the city. Luna had arrived at the banquet hall earlier than her and must have been discovered.
Natalie called Keith, her voice tight with urgency.
“Are the police on their way? Luna’s location is already outside the city limits.”
“I’m with the police right now,” Keith reassured her. “We’re very close to her position. Don’t worry, I’ll bring her back safe.”
“Okay. Just make sure she’s safe.” Natalie hung up and saw that the traffic ahead had come to a complete standstill. Her grip on the steering wheel tightened. Why was there a traffic jam now of all times? The chorus of horns from behind only frayed her nerves further.
Sebastian glanced ahead. “Natalie, try to calm down. This road is always full of construction trucks. There was probably an accident up ahead.”
She ignored him. Her car was trapped in the middle of the lane with nowhere to go. All she could do was trust Keith. Luna had to be okay. Suddenly, an idea struck her.
She accessed the computer in her car. If Luna had managed to record any evidence, she would have uploaded it to the cloud. That way, if she was caught, she could delete the local file without putting herself in immediate danger.
Natalie found a file marked with today’s date. She opened it. It was a video. On the screen, a male waiter approached Marshall and, while he was distracted, dropped a small pill into his drink. A moment later, a friend came over to offer a toast, and Marshall, unsuspecting, drained the glass.
Then, a figure with a similar build and hairstyle to hers walked past. Marshall stood up and followed. “Natalie, wait up! I don’t feel so good. Can you take a look at me?”
A message from Mrs. Spencer Sr. came through almost immediately.
[Natalie, thank you so much. I sent someone to check the surveillance room, but the recordings had already been destroyed.]
Natalie typed back: [Grandma, my friend Luna filmed this, but Mr. Wilson’s men might have taken her. I’m on my way to find her now. Please be careful of Mr. Wilson.]
Mrs. Spencer Sr. replied: [Natalie, don’t worry about that lecherous old bastard. I’m not afraid of him.]
