Sean watched Sebastian's retreating back, wanting to shout, Sir, don't go! Your first love is still at the police station! At the same time, he was thrilled that Sebastian was no longer revolving around Joanna.
He sighed. Trying to find evidence now would be a fool's errand.
…
Natalie couldn't get through to Luna's phone. Checking her location, she saw the signal was moving rapidly toward the city's outskirts. Luna was in trouble. She had to save her.
She had just started her car when the passenger door was yanked open, and Sebastian’s tall frame slid into the seat.
Natalie frowned, slammed the brakes, and turned to him, her voice icy. “Get out.”
Sebastian met her cold gaze, a look he rarely saw. “I’ll go with you.” Her tense expression told him something was wrong.
Natalie shot him a mocking look, genuinely surprised he'd gotten in. “Shouldn’t you be with your first love, Mr. Griffith? Aren’t you worried she’s being mistreated?” In the past, whenever Joanna was even slightly upset, Sebastian would be by her side, tending to her every need.
She drove with incredible speed and skill. For the first time, Sebastian realized Natalie was not just a capable driver, but an excellent one. Her car was a high-performance machine, accelerating swiftly as she weaved through traffic with the fluid grace of a professional race car driver. Her movements were precise, her judgment of distances impeccable.
“Natalie,” Sebastian said, slightly stunned, “when did you become such a good driver?”
Natalie’s smile was cold. For some reason, his words still sent a sharp pain through her heart. “Mr. Griffith, in your eyes, was I ever capable of anything?” Right. To him, she was just some country bumpkin. Useless, except for cooking. Back then, when his legs were paralyzed, she had taken care of him while studying for her master's degree in secret, cramming whenever he was asleep or working. She was exhausted every single day, yet he never even noticed. Now, she finally understood. Sebastian had never loved her, so what right did she have to blame him for anything? For not loving her? Was that why he felt it was okay to trample on her dignity? The truth was, he loved Joanna. If he had just asked for a divorce when Joanna returned, she would have stepped aside. But instead, he had chosen to humiliate her.
Seeing a long line of trucks ahead, Natalie pushed all distracting thoughts from her mind and focused on the road.
