Natalie turned and walked away, her back straight and cold.

Sebastian let out a helpless laugh. Now he understood how she must have felt all those times when they had all believed Joanna over her. The pain of not being believed was sharp and infuriating, a fire burning in his chest with no escape.

“Come on, sir, do you even need to investigate? It was obviously your first love. But with Mr. Wilson helping her, finding evidence will be nearly impossible.” Sean had seen the whole thing from the doorway. This kind of dramatic display was Joanna’s signature move. “Go investigate,” Sebastian ordered. “Call me when you find something.”
