Called Off the Wedding, Left Him Bankrupt novel Chapter 114

"Thank God you weren't really hurt, Cynthia. If anything had happened to you... I don't even want to think about it."

As Benedict spoke, he swept his long arm around her, pulling her tightly against his chest.

A wave of revulsion rose in Cynthia. Her eyes went cold as ice.

She tried with all her strength to shove him away, but the man only tightened his grip, refusing to let go.

In the next instant, a slender, elegant hand came to rest on Benedict's shoulder.

As Benedict turned in surprise, Dominic yanked him back with a swift, practiced motion, pulling him away from Cynthia.

Assistant Shaw let out a pointed "Hey!" and quickly stepped between the two men, effectively becoming a human barrier. "Gentlemen, let's keep this civil. Mr. Shepard, there's no need for this sort of behavior."

He shot Benedict a look. "You don't honestly think a few sweet words are all it takes for Miss Tremaine to forgive you and march down the aisle, do you?"

Seeing Dominic now standing protectively at Cynthia's side made Benedict's heart lurch. His expression stiffened, uncertain.

"This is between Cynthia and me," he said tightly. "Mr. Holloway, I don't believe my personal life is any of your concern."

Dominic's eyes narrowed, his presence calm and imposing as he stood beside Cynthia, features impassive.

"Personal life?" he echoed, a trace of mockery in his voice. His gaze shifted to Cynthia. "Are you even family?"

Cynthia shook her head, her tone flat. "No. We're not."

Dominic finally looked directly at Benedict, his words crisp and cold. "Did you hear that, Mr. Shepard? Miss Tremaine is not your family."

Benedict's jaw clenched, anger flaring in his eyes.

"Cynthia, this tantrum has gone far enough. I'm not blaming you for ruining the wedding today or for embarrassing me. I admit I was wrong, and I promise I'll make it up to you—with an even grander ceremony next time."
