Cynthia's grip tightened on her phone, worry flickering across her face.
"Sis, no matter what happens, I'll get it done."
Juliet gave a soft, approving hum. "You've really grown up."
In the past, Cynthia would have been in a complete panic, begging Juliet for help and guidance. But not anymore.
After the call, Cynthia headed to the reception desk to pick up her lunch order. She had just grabbed the bag when she spotted Dominic and his team returning from outside.
She hurried over, all eager smiles and pleasant energy.
"Mr. Holloway, have you eaten yet?"
Dominic listened to his assistant's rundown of the day's agenda, barely acknowledging her as he walked by, his face unreadable.
Undeterred, Cynthia fell into step beside him, determined to stay close as they made their way toward the elevators.
The receptionist watched the scene unfold, feeling a headache coming on. Should she step in or stay out of it? There was no good answer.
Cynthia waited patiently until Dominic's assistant finished reporting, then tried again, her smile unwavering.
"Mr. Holloway, would you like to have lunch together?"
Dominic paused, glancing her way. His eyes were dark and deep, impossible to read—was he amused or annoyed?
The receptionist saw her chance and hurried over. "I'm sorry, Mr. Holloway. We'll escort this young lady out right away."
Dominic said nothing, but the receptionist hesitated, unsure whether to act.
Cynthia kept smiling, forcing herself to stay calm. Since Dominic had clearly figured out their scheme, there was no way he'd let her join Holloway Enterprises today.
Her sister had scheduled her welcome dinner for three days later. That gave her three days—plenty of time. No need to panic.
Before the receptionist could actually kick her out, Cynthia quickly shoved a gift bag into Dominic's hand.
"This is just a little thank you for driving me home last night. It's not related to my job application—completely separate. Please, Mr. Holloway, just accept it."
Dominic's expression didn't change, but at least he didn't throw the bag away in front of her.
Cynthia let out a silent sigh of relief.
