Dominic's expression didn't flicker. He kept his face cold and his eyes downcast, focused on the stack of documents in his hands.
"If you're done, get out."
"Alright," Assistant Shaw replied, making a show of nonchalance as he turned and left the office.
He didn't hurry down the corridor. Instead, he lingered just outside Dominic's door, checking his watch and leaning against the wall as if he had all the time in the world.
After about a minute, the office door opened from within.
Shaw straightened, folding his arms over his chest and angling his body casually against the wall. There was a mischievous smirk on his lips.
"Cousin, what brings you out here? Miss Tremaine already left, you know."
Dominic cast him an icy glance, his gaze unreadable. Without acknowledging Shaw further, he looked past him and addressed the secretary in the nearby cubicle, his voice low and steady.
"Bring me a coffee. The desk phone is acting up—have IT take a look."
"Yes, Mr. Holloway," the secretary replied softly before heading off to the break room.
Shaw raised an eyebrow, feigning innocence. "Miss Tremaine probably hasn't gotten far. Want me to go after her for you?"
Dominic's eyes were cool and indifferent as he shot him a look. "If you're feeling so restless, I can always send you to manage the Westchester project."
The look of amusement vanished from Shaw's face, replaced by an eager, almost obsequious grin. "Just kidding, Dom. No need for that."
Dominic didn't bother to look at him again. He turned and headed back into his office.
Soon, an IT technician arrived, inspecting the desk phone thoroughly before turning to report. "Mr. Holloway—"
Dominic cut him off with a brief wave of his hand. The technician took the hint and left without another word.
Once alone, Dominic glanced down at his phone, his deep, dark eyes betraying nothing. He picked up the phone, hesitated, then set it aside. Instead, his gaze landed on a project proposal left on his desk—Cynthia's work.
