Called Off the Wedding, Left Him Bankrupt novel Chapter 161

The next morning.

Cynthia stood before her bedroom mirror, her expression tense. Even with makeup carefully applied, she couldn't quite disguise her slightly puffy eyes. She dabbed at her concealer again, but eventually sighed, defeated, and gave up. There was no point fussing over it anymore. She headed downstairs.

Juliet was already seated at the dining table, quietly eating her breakfast. Cynthia joined her, never one to forget her responsibilities.

"The doctor wants you in for your IV at two this afternoon," she reminded Juliet. "And you've got another round of chemo tomorrow."

Juliet merely nodded, nonchalant as ever. "Got it."

Seeing Juliet's indifferent attitude, Cynthia leaned in, her gaze intent. "I'll have your assistant keep me updated on how you're doing."

She worried Juliet would get caught up in work again and forget the hospital visit.

Juliet arched an eyebrow, lips quirking. "Whatever you say."

After breakfast, Cynthia hitched a ride with Juliet to work.

Holloway Enterprises wasn't far from Tremaine Holdings. Years ago, when the Holloways and the Tremaines were close, they'd chosen their headquarters in the same area. Now, people joked that the most valuable thing Tremaine Holdings still owned was probably their office tower. If they ever sold the building, everyone would know the company had truly fallen.

They arrived at Holloway Enterprises.

Cynthia hopped out, intending to remind Juliet one last time not to miss her appointment, but Juliet just told the driver to go, clearly unwilling to endure another round of nagging. Cynthia had no choice but to turn and walk toward Holloway Tower. Perhaps Dominic had given instructions—this time, the receptionist let her through without a word.

Since Dominic had offered her the job personally, Cynthia didn't bother checking in with HR. She went straight to his office upstairs.

Stepping out of the elevator, she ran right into Dominic's secretary.

The secretary smiled warmly and greeted her. "Miss Tremaine, Mr. Holloway is in a meeting. Why don't I show you to my desk for now?"
