After finishing lunch, Dominic stood up and left the room.
Cynthia quietly tidied up her makeshift "desk," then dove right back into her work.
Back in his office chair, Dominic could hear the faint rustling of papers from her side of the divider. He glanced over, his eyes drawn to the sound.
The decorative screen blocked part of his view, but through its carved openings, he could still see Cynthia's face—her brows drawn together in focus as she pored over the documents.
"You just had lunch," he called out in his deep, mellow voice. "Take a break for a while. Holloway Enterprises isn't the kind of place that runs its employees into the ground."
Cynthia was so absorbed that she didn't even hear him.
Dominic's expression darkened slightly. He picked up his phone, opened up a game, and sent Cynthia an invite.
Cynthia noticed her phone light up. She set aside her paperwork and checked the screen, pausing when she saw it was a game invite from Dominic.
She glanced over in his direction.
He was already watching her. Their eyes met over the top of the partition, and his commanding voice left no room for argument.
Cynthia looked at the mountain of files in front of her and hesitated, lowering her voice. "Mr. Holloway, it's work hours. Is this really okay?"
Dominic shot her a look. "What company doesn't have a lunch break? Log in."
Cynthia gave a soft, resigned "okay," and tapped into Dominic's game invite.
She hadn't played this game in years—her skills were rusty, but her rank was even lower than Dominic's, which ended up working in their favor. Their teammates weren't exactly pros either.
Because their ranks were so low, but Dominic had a premium badge over his avatar, he became an easy target for the opposing team.
Cynthia found herself constantly sprinting across the map to back him up. Every time she got there, though, Dominic's character was the first one down.
Eventually, she started camping in the bushes, waiting for Dominic to draw enemy fire before leaping out to help.
