"Cynthia, I think Mr. Holloway's had enough for tonight. Why don't you help him upstairs to rest?"
Juliet's words caught Cynthia off guard. She was being asked to escort Dominic upstairs—a task she hadn't expected. For a moment, she just stood there, unsure of what to do.
She glanced at the man by her side and noticed the slight haze in his eyes. He really did look a little drunk.
Dominic had already been tipsy when he returned to the office, and now, after sitting through the whole evening, he must be feeling terrible.
"All right, sis," Cynthia replied quietly.
Without further hesitation, she set her wine glass down and gently took Dominic's glass from his hand, placing both on the tray.
Truth be told, she was a bit anxious about whether Dominic would even agree to go upstairs with her. She lowered her voice and spoke softly, almost as if to avoid anyone else hearing.
"Mr. Holloway, would you like to come upstairs and get some rest?"
Dominic gave a low, distracted "Mm," clearly not as steady as usual.
Relieved that he'd agreed, Cynthia began to lead him toward the staircase.
Only, he didn't budge. He just stood there, unmoving.
After a few steps, Cynthia realized something was wrong. She paused and turned back with a questioning look.
Why wasn't he following? Hadn't he just agreed?
Dominic noticed her confusion and frowned. "What exactly did Miss Juliet just say?"
Cynthia stopped to recall. Her sister had asked her to take Dominic upstairs to rest. Wasn't she doing just that? What was the problem?
Around them, people began to exchange knowing smiles. No one expected the usually aloof and sharp-tongued Dominic to act like this.
Someone in the crowd finally spoke up, a hint of mischief in their voice. "Miss Cynthia, Miss Juliet said you should help Mr. Holloway upstairs to rest."
The word "help" was emphasized, and a ripple of laughter ran through the room.
