“Mr. Holloway, why don’t you just say it? What exactly do you need me to do? Or is there something else I can offer you?”

Dominic fixed his gaze on her—those honest, bright eyes searching his face. He exhaled, forcing down the frown that threatened his composure.

“Go home and think it over,” he said.

Cynthia noticed the twitch in his brow. She must have come across as too blunt, too unwilling to dig any deeper, and it had clearly irritated him.

He was barely holding back his temper, but at least he was giving her some dignity.

“Alright then,” she replied quietly.

She didn’t linger. Cynthia slipped out of the car, shutting the door behind her.

But Dominic didn’t drive off. He sat there, silent, watching her from behind the windshield.

She took a few steps away, then spun around abruptly, hurrying back to the car. Leaning over, she pressed both hands to the window, her eyes earnest as she peered in at him.

“Mr. Holloway, as long as you agree to take me to the Raynes’ engagement party, I’ll do whatever you ask. Anything.”

Her sister had finally started to recover, working with the doctors and fighting to stay positive. Cynthia was desperate to get back and be by her side—scared, deep down, that her sister might lose hope again, even if that possibility was slim.

Dominic’s frustration finally broke through, his brow furrowing in anger.

“You can help me kill someone,” he said, his tone deadly serious.

Cynthia’s heart skipped a beat. She shook her head immediately. “Absolutely not.”

Dominic’s eyes narrowed in disdain as he watched her recoil. She’d caved so quickly it made her look utterly insincere. Cynthia offered a sheepish smile.

“Anything except murder, arson, or breaking the law. Anything else is fair game.”

He regarded her, impatience simmering. “Not much sincerity there, Miss Tremaine,” he scoffed.

“I am sincere! Honestly, if I could, I’d tattoo the word ‘sincerity’ on my forehead for you, Mr. Holloway,” Cynthia blurted.
