Called Off the Wedding, Left Him Bankrupt novel Chapter 78

"Cynthia, this was all put together at the last minute. Of course, it can't compare to something planned well in advance. But even if you're not happy with it, you really shouldn't drag my mother into this. She raised me on her own, and that wasn't easy, so—"

Cynthia cut him off sharply. "So for our wedding jewelry, you had your mother buy me gold-plated trinkets?"

Benedict blinked, caught off guard—he clearly had no idea what she was talking about.

"Cynthia, it's not like that—"

"So all this time, you've been sulking because of this?" His tense expression eased a bit, as if relieved to finally name the problem.

Cynthia let out a cold laugh. "Benedict, I don't want to see you right now. And do me a favor—don't drag me down with you, okay?"

She didn't wait for a reply, just turned and strode toward the entrance of Holloway Enterprises' glass tower.

Benedict followed behind her.

As soon as Cynthia stepped into the lobby, the receptionist hurried over. "Miss Tremaine, Mr. Holloway asked me to take you upstairs."

She nodded, her posture composed, while Benedict caught up, determined to walk alongside her.

"Cynthia, let's put our issues aside for now. I'll go up with you," he said quietly.

She stopped and glanced at him, almost surprised he'd followed her after everything she'd just said. Apparently, his pride didn't matter anymore.

The receptionist, sensing the tension, lowered her voice apologetically. "Miss Tremaine, I'm sorry, but your appointment with Mr. Holloway is for one person only. I'm afraid you'll need to go up alone."

Cynthia nearly sighed with relief and nodded. "That's fine."

Benedict's brow furrowed, irritation flickering in his eyes. He was just about to protest, but Cynthia shot him a look—her eyes flicking with disdain to the gift box still clutched in his hand.
