Alexander instinctively glanced at Isabella when the guard said fiancee.

She, too, had frozen for a second when she learned that he had a fiancee. She wasn't upset, but she was surprised by the information.

Alexander opened his mouth as if to say something, but the words died on his tongue. He took the thermal lunch box from the guard and immediately gave it to Isabella.

However, she didn't take it and merely stared at him in confusion.

"Have this. I've got other things to do," he said flatly.

Seeing that she still didn't take it, Alexander shoved it into her hands. He said brusquely, "Didn't you say you're working late? Take it and eat it while you work."

By the time Isabella snapped out of it, he had already left the building, leaving her standing by the elevator with his fiancee's home-cooked food in her hands.

The whole situation was completely absurd.

But there was nothing else she could do. Alexander was off to meet his fiancee, while she had to go back to her desk and work.

The moment Isabella sat back down at her desk, Theodore called her. Seeing his name flashing on the screen, her gloom vanished. She picked up the call while starting her computer.

When his gentle voice came through the receiver, a wave of unexplainable bitterness stirred in her chest.

"Are you still at the office?" he asked.

"Yes. I still have a mountain of work left." She hadn't noticed it, but her voice had a subtle girlish lilt when she talked to Theodore.

"Have you eaten?"
