"Isabella, I just told you I fired Lisa, and that's all you have to say?" Alexander asked.

Isabella was baffled. Just what kind of reaction was she supposed to have? He was the boss. If he wanted to fire someone, that was his call. What did it have to do with her?

Seeing her confusion, Alexander let out a quiet sigh. "Isabella, I fired Lisa because of you. Didn't she always bully you? She even stole your designs more than once. Now that I've gotten rid of her, shouldn't you be happy?"

She grew even more puzzled. It felt like something was off about him today. He actually fired Lisa for her sake?

"Alexander, are you still half-asleep? Or are you sick?"

His expression turned icy as he stared at her, as if asking her if he looked sick.

"Isabella!" His sudden shout startled her. "What's your problem?"

He rubbed his forehead. He knew Isabella misunderstood him. Ever since they reunited, he hadn't treated her well. But wasn't that because he was still angry?

Back then, she had broken up with him so decisively, leaving him no room to argue. After that, she'd avoided him for three whole years. Wasn't he allowed to hold a little resentment?

"Isabella, you're my secretary now," Alexander said. "We're going to be working together for a long time. I'd like us to deal with each other calmly and not be so hostile every time we open our mouths."

She nodded in agreement, but her tone was laced with sarcasm. "Mr. Sinclair, you're the one who is always so hostile."

"Yes. I'm sorry."

Isabella froze. Something was definitely off with Alexander. Was he actually apologizing?
