That night, Isabella slept fitfully, plagued by nightmares. She woke up several times, and each time, she could feel Theodore holding her tightly. His warmth and steady breathing calmed her down instantly.

She woke up late after the restless night. She didn't have time for breakfast and went straight to the office. Just as she reached the entrance, she saw that the elevator doors were about to close.

"Hold on!" she called.

Someone inside heard her and pressed the button to reopen the doors. When she reached the elevator, she saw Jessie standing inside.

Jessie smiled at her. "You're running late, too. Come on in."

Isabella stepped in. She was about to press the button for her floor, but Jessie beat her to it and asked, "Did you eat breakfast? I bought bread. Do you want some?"

"No, thanks," Isabella answered coolly.

Jessie turned her head, puzzled by her tone. "Isabella, what's wrong? Didn't you sleep well? You sound cranky."

Isabella met her eyes and replied indifferently, "Jessie, maybe you don't really know me. When I talk to people I don't like, this is how I always sound. Have you ever noticed me being nice to Lisa?"

The smile on Jessie's face froze, and her expression turned awkward. She stared at Isabella, a little stunned that Isabella would talk to her like this.

Feeling aggrieved, she asked, "Isabella, what's going on? Aren't we friends? How can you compare me to Lisa?"

Isabella chuckled coldly and shot back, "Friends? Would a friend set me up and hand me over to some creep? Jessie, I guess your definition of friendship is different from mine."

The blunt accusation left Jessie momentarily speechless. She lowered her head, ashamed, but still tried to defend herself. "But wasn't that man your ex-fiancé? He told me he just wanted to see you once to clear up your misunderstanding. That's why I agreed. Isabella, I really didn't mean any harm."
