Isabella's face turned red.
The first time they had talked about this, Caleb and Emma were around, and Theodore had pretended to be a gentleman.
Now, with just the two of them in the room, he dropped the act entirely.
"You… you… you…" she sputtered, pointing at him awkwardly, unable to get a word out. Finally, she said, "I'm not talking about this! I just said I wanted to ask you questions!"
"Fine, ask away."
"Did you already know that Alexander and I… knew each other?"
He didn't even pause for a second and replied, "Yes."
She froze, stunned for a long moment, before finally finding her voice again. "Why? Since when?"
"There's only one reason. I didn't want you two together." His tone was calm, without a hint of emotion, as if they were casually discussing something trivial.
She was taken aback. "Why? Was all that back then your plan too? You told Amelia to break us up just to mess with him, so he couldn't take over the Sinclair family? Was that it?"
He looked at her and suddenly fell silent.
"Mr. Sinclair," she called out softly.
Not liking to be called like that, he frowned slightly. It meant she was intentionally keeping a distance, which made him a little uncomfortable.
"No, Alex was never really my match."
"Then why?" she pressed.
Theodore shook his head. "I'm not answering that question right now."
His refusal only made Isabella trust him less. She stood up, her tone calm but firm. "I've finished asking my questions. Mr. Sinclair, I think I need to reconsider our agreement.
She added, "Enjoy your dinner. I'm heading upstairs."
"Isabella, you can be mad at me for hiding things from you, but you can't go messing with your health over it."
She said nothing, went upstairs, and hesitated for a moment at the master bedroom door. She kept walking, choosing the guest room instead.
