"Bella…" Theodore said.
While Isabella was pouting angrily, he was smiling from ear to ear. He turned his head to the side, looking at her with a gaze full of tenderness. "Bella, I wish that you'd be just as happy every single day."
Isabella was stunned. She turned to look at him. His tone was sincere, and his eyes were filled with tender affection for her.
Their interaction had, without her even realizing it, diffused the tension from earlier this morning. So, he was teasing her on purpose so that she'd forget about the thing that bothered her.
Deep down, she was rather moved. This was what it felt like to be loved. It made her somewhat afraid and at a loss for what to do.
When they arrived home, Agnes and Ruth had dinner all prepared. Isabella washed her hands before going to the dining table.
Scanning the table full of dishes, she was baffled. "Agnes, what's the occasion today? Why are there so many dishes?"
Theodore entered the dining room from behind her, beaming.
Agnes smiled from ear to ear as she explained, "Mr. Sinclair said that you've been too worn out lately, so he wants you to have more nutritious food."
Isabella was speechless. She shot Theodore a glare. The same thing was happening again!
Ruth brought out one last dish—a soup. She urged, "Mrs. Sinclair, you should have more to eat. You're too scrawny!"
"Have more to eat."
Theodore repeated that the entire evening. He peeled prawns for her and served soup into her bowl.
Isabella stared at the pile of prawns on her plate, then peered at Theodore, who was carefully peeling a prawn while sitting across from her. She couldn't help but pout.
"Theodore, are you feeding me like I'm a pig?"
He held the freshly-peeled prawn between his fingers and offered it straight to her lips. His eyes glistened with joy as he prompted, "Open up. This is the biggest prawn."
His tone sounded so natural, as if it were absolutely normal for him to feed her. Agnes and Ruth couldn't help but exchange a glance in glee when they saw him like that.
At a loss for what to do when he was staring at her like that, Isabella had no choice but to open her mouth awkwardly and take the prawn. A fresh sweetness from the prawn spread on her palate. Meanwhile, her heart pounded like a beating drum.
She hung her head low to eat her food. She mumbled, "I'm not a kid. I don't need you to feed me like this."
"You're too skinny," Theodore remarked.
He placed the prawn shell down, then picked up the ladle and gave her another scoop of chicken noodle soup. He was even attentive enough to scoop out more of the chicken. "This will help make you stronger. Have more of this."
