When they finally reached home, she expected all three of them to walk into their house. But instead, Rong Ye suddenly turned toward the next tree house, the small one beside theirs.
That tree house belonged to them too, but since it was far too tiny for all of them, they only used it as a storage space.
Even so, it was still part of their home.
Su Qinglan blinked in confusion as the two males walked straight into that small tree house. She hesitated for a moment before following them inside.
The moment she stepped inside, she froze, her breath catching in her throat.
Because right there, inside the dim tree house, on the rough hide spread across the floor, a petite figure lay still, her back facing them, her long hair wet and clinging to her skin.
And beside her, sitting on the floor with a dark, unreadable face, was Han Jue.
Su Qinglan’s entire body stiffened. She had not expected to see him here. And she definitely had not expected to see him like this, with a tense expression, his jaw tight, his eyes strangely conflicted.
Han Jue lifted his head and looked at her with a heavy expression.
"Lan Lan," he said slowly. "We found her."
Su Qinglan’s heart dropped.
He continued, his voice low and tense, "We found a female unconscious in the mountain. She was almost buried in the deep mud. If not for my wolf’s senses, we wouldn’t have noticed her at all."
Rong Ye’s eyes were lowered. Hu Yan looked grim. They all turned to her, waiting, as if they were expecting her to react in some special way.
Su Qinglan felt her breath shake. She slowly stepped forward, her eyes fixed on the still figure lying there. The female was tiny, soaked, and breathing so faintly that Su Qinglan almost thought she wasn’t breathing at all.
A loneliness she didn’t understand twisted inside her chest.
A female, alone in the mountain, in this weather?
When her eyes dropped lower, she sucked in a sharp breath.
The female’s belly was slightly raised.
"She’s pregnant," Su Qinglan whispered in shock. 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂
But before she could say anything more, she noticed something else.
Han Jue and Rong Ye both looked even more panicked after her words. Their expressions tightened further, and Su Qinglan realized they weren’t telling her everything.
"What happened?" she asked, staring straight at Han Jue. "Are you hiding something from me?"
Han Jue swallowed once, then slowly lifted his hand and gestured toward the female.
"Lan Lan, come and see her face."
Her heart thudded painfully. For some reason, her legs felt heavy as she slowly moved to the female’s side. She knelt down, reached out with trembling fingers, and gently lifted the wet strands of hair covering the female’s face.
The moment her face was revealed, Su Qinglan gasped sharply. Her hand froze midair.
Her mind went blank as her entire body turned rigid.
Because the face that stared back at her, even unconscious, pale, and half covered in mud and rainwater, looked just like her own.
Not exactly the same, but at least 80 percent similar.
The small delicate features, the shape of the nose, the gentle curve of the lips, even the eyelashes, everything reminded her of herself.
Only the hair color was different.
Su Qinglan’s lips parted, but no sound came out. She looked at Han Jue with wide, shocked eyes.
Han Jue only shook his head helplessly. "I don’t know, Lan Lan. But she really looks like you."
Hu Yan, who had been silent until now, immediately came forward. He stopped behind Su Qinglan, staring back and forth between her and the unconscious female.
His mouth opened slightly, as if he didn’t even know how to react.
How could the little female look so much like his own female?
Even he couldn’t understand it.
Han Jue exhaled deeply and asked, "Lan Lan, is she your long lost sister? Or someone related to you? Why does she resemble you so much?"
Su Qinglan shook her head immediately.
"No. I don’t know anything. I don’t even know if I ever had a sister. I don’t understand..."
