Cold Husband Burning Regret: The Divorce He Couldn't Handle novel Chapter 429

As evening fell, Charlotte still hadn’t managed to reach Norene—her calls went unanswered, and even her WhatsApp messages sat on read. A gnawing sense of unease told her something was wrong.

But with Norene’s background, if anything truly serious had happened, the Lennoxes wouldn’t just stand by and do nothing.

“Charlotte, still no luck getting through to Norene?” Vera came over and asked quietly.

Charlotte shook her head.

“She’s not at home, not at her apartment… Where else could she be? She wouldn’t actually run away from the wedding, would she? Even if she did, she’d at least check her messages…” Vera was trying to reason it out, but as soon as she mentioned running away, something clicked for Charlotte. She picked up her phone and sent a message to Mrs. Rivers.

“It’s getting late. Why don’t you go home and get some rest? I’ll ask around about Norene tomorrow.”

“What about you?”

“I’ll head home once I finish these files.”

After Vera left, Charlotte stayed late at the office, working overtime until nearly seven.

Now that fall had settled over Riverspire, the difference between day and night temperatures was sharp; it grew noticeably colder once the sun dipped. As she left the hospital, a brisk wind cut through the dusk, making her clutch her coat tighter as she descended the steps.

“Miss Sterling.”

She stopped short. Glancing back, she saw someone sitting in a nearby car. The driver’s window rolled down, revealing a serene, porcelain-doll face—delicate, pretty, and unmistakable.

Charlotte walked over. “Miss Carstairs?” She looked around, puzzled. “It’s late. What brings you to the hospital?”

Yolanda smiled. “I’m waiting for you.”

“For me?”

“You haven’t eaten, have you? How about dinner together?”

Charlotte didn’t turn down the invitation. “Sure.”

They drove slowly through the city. Charlotte watched the neon-lit skyline flicker past the window, each frame like a scene from an old movie.

Yolanda glanced at her. “Honestly, I thought you’d turn me down.”

Charlotte looked at her, puzzled. “Why would I?”

“You saw me with Evander. Didn’t you feel anything?”
