Cold Husband Burning Regret: The Divorce He Couldn't Handle novel Chapter 428

Charlotte averted her gaze, her voice calm. “I was just heading downstairs.”

Yolanda glanced at Evander, but when he remained silent, she held back whatever she’d been about to say.

Once the elevator doors closed, Charlotte kept her head down, deliberately avoiding that dark, searching gaze she could feel on her. She lingered in the lobby for a while, lost in thought, until Vera’s voice snapped her back to reality.

“Charlotte!”

She turned, “Vera?”

“Has Norene shown up for work? It’s been three days—she’s not answering my texts or calls, and she hasn’t come home either.” Vera’s concern was written all over her face. “She mentioned her family was pressuring her to settle down. You don’t think—”

Evander hesitated for a moment, then shook his head. “She won’t.”

Yolanda stopped and gave him a meaningful look. “So you’re really planning to step aside for my brother?”

He fell silent.

He wanted to—he wanted to let go. But what if, in the end, he regretted it all?

Yolanda chuckled, “You’re not giving up now, are you? There’s still time. My brother hasn’t won her over yet; you still have a chance.”

Evander looked at her. “Aren’t you always on your brother’s side? Why help me instead?”

She grinned. “It’s because I care about him that I don’t want to see him get hurt.”

Evander pressed his lips together, saying nothing.
