Come To Me (Amelia and Patrick) novel Chapter 1485

Brittany had never needed to live alone like a normal adult.

When she was a child, her parents doted on her. After she grew up, Daniel spoiled her. Even when she was at the boarding school, she was accompanied by a bunch of other same spoiled br*ts who knew nothing about life. Therefore, after she ran away from home, she did not know where to go!

"Should I rent a house?" thought Brittany. However, she had never rented a house. She did not even know how one would start to go renting a place, so she gave up on that.

"Should I go to a friend's house? But my friends are out at night. No one will be at home for me even if I go to them now," pondered Brittany.

So, she decided to stay in a hotel and made other plans after the night.

Just as she had made up her mind to stop a taxi, her phone suddenly rang in her bag.

She quickly took out her phone and was elated at the sight of the name of the caller. She then answered in a hurry, "Uncle Kaleb!"

After that, she cried, "Uncle Kaleb... I... My mom chased me out of the house... I have no place to stay now. Can you...can you take me in?"

Kaleb's residence was at Northville, and his house was assigned to him by the company.

Because Kaleb often spent a lot of money on himself, he had not renovated the house for the past 20 years. Naturally, the house looked old and shabby.

When the house came into view for Brittany, who was sitting in the taxi with her window rolled down, she suddenly had an impulse to ask the driver to turn the car around!

However, Kaleb had already seen her and was approaching her with a smile. He then held the car door for her and even paid the taxi driver.

"Uncle Kaleb..." Brittany restrained herself for a long time, but still asked in disgust, "You live here?"

Kaleb turned back around and looked at the house behind him. He then answered with a touch of selfmockery, "Yes. I haven't been earning much. If not, I would've bought a new house a long time ago."

"Do you...have a hard time at the company?" Brittany looked at him in strange surprise.

She had thought that a director like Kaleb must have a high annual salary, not to mention the dividends he received. So, how come he could not afford a decent house?

In fact, there was nothing Kaleb could complain about as he spent most of his money on his mistresses and gambling. Also, because he owned properties elsewhere and he had to provide for his son to study abroad, he could care less about his wife. So, he left her at the withering house.

But could Kaleb tell Brittany the truth?

He was not a fool!

"Sigh, don't mention it! Most people think it's great to be a director. But the truth is that my pay isn't proportional to the amount of effort I put in. Remember the inspection from some time ago? Do you know how much fund your good sister allocated me?"

Brittany's curiosity was piqued. "How much?"

Kaleb put up five fingers. "Guess how much this is?"

Brittany, considering her own usual spending, replied, "Five thousand dollars?"

"Are you kidding me?" Kaleb laughed bitterly deep down.

Kaleb had deliberately decided to lie that the amount Amelia gave him was five hundred dollars when it was actually one thousand dollars. But he did not expect Brittany to come up with five thousand dollars on the get- go. However, this might be well too. This way, the contrast between reality and her guess would be even more drastic.

"How much was it then? Don't tell me that it was... Five hundred dollars?" Brittany was hesitant as this was clearly not in line with her style of spending.

Kaleb nodded. "Correct. It was five hundred!"

"What? That's too little... Five hundred isn't enough for anything. I can't even buy two tops with that! Isn't Amelia just trying to make things difficult for you now?"

Brittany's reaction was intense. In her eyes, five hundred dollars was equivalent to 50 dollars.

Kaleb could not stop snickering. To be frank, he was starting to like this niece of his. Even without him leading on, Brittany had started scolding Amelia on his behalf.

Kaleb then discreetly heaved a sigh of relief and changed the subject. "Brittany, come upstairs with me. My wife will welcome you."

Brittany, on the other hand, replied quite cautiously, "I've never met auntie in my life."

"You met her when you were a child! Maybe it has been too long for you to remember her. It's fine. You can just get to know her again. Your aunt is easy to get along with."

Since the house was about two decades old, there was no elevator. So, Brittany had no choice but to follow Kaleb upstairs by using the stairs.

The stairwell had been needing repair for the longest time. The light bulbs above their heads would not turn on. What was more frightening was that there were cockroaches. Brittany was so scared that she almost jumped into Kaleb's arms several times.

Kaleb could not help but feel the youthful aura emanating from Brittany when she got close to Kaleb, which aroused something in him.

However, Kaleb did not have any thoughts about his biological niece. That was unless Brittany was adopted from an orphanage like Amelia. If that was the case, she would not be related to him.

After Kaleb crushed several cockroaches, he turned around and called out to her, "Brittany, don't be scared. I've trampled them for you. Come on up."

Brittany was so horrified that her legs went limp, and she regret coming to this place, "bine... Uncle... How many more floors are there?"

"Just three more." Kaleb smiled.

"Ah..." Brittany almost burst into tears. For the first time, Brittany was appreciating the Ramsay's Mansion, which was devoid of any kind of nasty bugs.

Moments passed.

Kaleb stood in front of a rusty iron gate and grinned as he introduced the place, "Come, Brittany. This is my home."

After walking for some time, Brittany was getting a little exhausted. So when she heard Kaleb's invitation, she immediately looked relieved and expressed, "Let's head inside quickly, Uncle Kaleb!"
