After Brittany entered the house, she greeted Kaleb's wife briefly before being ushered into a vacant room by Kaleb. The room reportedly belonged to his son before he went abroad.
Brittany was used to stay in huge, fancily decorated rooms. Looking around and upon seeing the small room full of junk, she was in a terrible mood.
When Kaleb noticed that Brittany's expression was full of disdain, he tried to make her feel better. "Your aunt was rushing and may not have time to clean it properly. I will ask her to do a spring cleaning tomorrow after you stayed the night."
Although it was at this moment that Brittany had been dying to leave this wretched place, she was also the one who had taken the initiative to ask Kaleb for help. Wouldn't it be too shameless of her if she left now?
Moreover, she needed Kaleb's support to ascend to become the acting director of Apex Construction Corporation, so it was better for her to compromise at this moment.
Brittany suppressed her discomfort and entered the room while turning to Kaleb, "Uncle, can you come in for a moment? I have something to tell you."
"Of course." Kaleb immediately followed her in.
"Please take a seat, uncle," Brittany invited politely as she leaned her luggage against the wall.
Kaleb could not help himself and laughed. "Brittany, why are you suddenly so polite?"
Stomping her foot, she answered in a pampered tone, "Uncle, don't make fun of me like this. Sit down please!"
"Of course!"
As Kaleb took his seat, he caught sight of Brittany bowing to him solemnly. This sight of her shocked him so much that he immediately shot up from his chair like a bullet. Kaleb helped her up and asked, "Brittany, what on earth are you doing?"
Brittany looked up at him with tears welling up in her eyes. Even as her uncle, Kaleb could not help but grimace
"Uncle... Thank you so much for willing to take me in when I'm at my lowest. I really don't know how to repay you." Brittany thanked him pitifully.
As long as she did not snatch the position away from him!
Kaleb silently anticipated and replied her modestly, "The pleasure is mine!"
Brittany glanced at him and continued pitifully, "Uncle, did you know that I had a big fight with my mother on the day I ran away from home?"
Kaleb's expression turned cold. "Was it because of Amelia?"
Brittany nodded and continued in solemnly, "In my rage, I blurted that uncle was treating me better than my parents..."
"Did you really say that?!" Although Kaleb seemed to be touched, nevertheless, his expression was that of worry for the fact that Brittany may have said something wrong.
"Yes, I did. After hearing this, my mother was so angry that she slapped me and told me to get out of the Ramsay Family house immediately."
Brittany turned her head sadly as she shared about this, just in time to reveal the other half of her face that was slapped by Alice.
Because Brittany was naturally pale, the mark left on her face took a longer time to vanish.
Upon witnessing this, Kaleb seemed to have felt a stab of pain in his heart. "My child, your mother was obviously angry with you only at that time."
"No, it wasn't like that!" Brittany exclaimed emotionally, tears streaming down her cheeks. "I could feel it. My mother was determined to chase me away for real this time. She even said, since I think you treat me better, then I can acknowledge you as my father!"
"But..." Kaleb was at a loss for words.
Brittany sniffed, then added on gratefully, "This is proof that you definitely treated me better. When uncle heard that I had no place to stay, you immediately invited me to move in with you."
Did Brittany really think that she was qualified for this role?
Kaleb mocked her internally, "Why are you so interested in this position? After all, you're still a student. Shouldn't you prioritize your studies first?"
"I don't want to lose to Amelia! If she was the acting director, then I can be one as well! I want those who looked down on me to be completely shocked!" Brittany replied bitterly.
Apparently it was for this reason!
Kaleb had anticipated that Brittany would say that she wanted to "protect her father's property" as an excuse, but he never thought that this would still end with a battle of worthiness with Amelia!
Albeit a little ridiculous, such a person was indeed suitable for being a puppet.
However, why would Kaleb choose to be a 'reagent' when he was sure that he could be the 'emperor'?
Wasn't this an unnecessary move?
"Uncle, will you help me?" Brittany was still waiting for his reply.
Kaleb thought to himself, "Only a fool would be willing to help you. If it weren't for the fact that Brittany was still useful to me, I would've kicked her out a long time ago."
"Why are you so impatient, Brittany? It's getting late. Why don't you call it a day and we can continue this discussion later?" Kaleb stood up as he spoke.
Upon noticing that Kaleb was about to leave, Brittany grabbed onto the hem of his shirt, swaying back and forth like a child. "Uncle..."
Kaleb pretended to dote on her and patted her head. "Be obedient. Amelia hasn't stepped down yet. Don't you think that it's too early to talk about who will take over her position?"
