Of course, Milton was not aware that Maryanne was not easy to coo at all. She had made the concession again and again only for him.
The next day.
After work, Milton returned to the apartment and picked up Maryanne. They went to the music store to pick up a good violin and bought a few music scripts before returning home.
After coming back, Maryanne touched the violin case from time to time, her proud eyes brimming with awe. Suddenly, Milton found it amazing that someone as ignorant and incompetent as Maryanne could have such a serious moment.
After dinner, under Milton's curious gaze, Maryanne opened the violin case and revealed the violin inside.
Maryanne stared at it and said, "It's beautiful."
To Milton, all the violins looked the same. Maybe this was the difference between a professional and a novice.
"My father forced me to practice playing the violin since I was in primary school. He said this could improve my temperament, that maybe I could be invited by a band and become a musician if my violin skill was great."
"But, learning the violin was too tedious for me. I wanted to give up countless times. But every time I wanted to give up, my father would come up with all kinds of temptations so that I would continue playing it."
"Many years later, I found that learning the violin was useless to me. I'm not talented, so I can't be the next Itzhak Perlman. After that, I even went to a diploma mill with a low score and continued to 'practice hard' on my violin."
"To tell you the truth, I don't like playing the violin. But, apart from my family, the violin is what has been accompanying me for the most part of my life. I also rely on it to validate my existence in front of my relatives and friends."
"So when I came to terms with it, I learned that it doesn't matter if I'm not a genius violinist. There are so many people who don't know how to play the violin, and at least I can play a little."
Maryanne took out the violin and the bow while speaking. With the violin in her left hand and the bow in her right, she placed the violin between her chin and left shoulder before placing the bow on the strings.
Maryanne's smooth actions immediately gave Milton the impression that he was at a solo concert.
The music score was already on the sheet stand. Maryanne was wearing a long black dress, looking noble and elegant. Other than her scarred hands, everything else was perfect!
When the melodious notes resonating from the strings, Milton got lost in trance. Although he did not know how to play the violin, he could appreciate it.
With the quality education that Milton had received since young, he knew better at how to appreciate precious things than most. So, he was confident in saying that although Maryanne's violin skill was not ingenious, she could play fairly well!
So the reason why she went to a diploma mill was not because of her violin skill, but because of her low grades in the college entrance examination.
When the repertoire reached its climax, Maryanne shut her eyes and devoted herself to the music.
Milton was once again taken by surprise. Maryanne was able to perform even without the music score. Evidently, she had memorized the melodies thoroughly!
For the first time, Milton admired Maryanne. He
wondered if she performed on a grander stage, would she be able to shine more brilliantly?
But in the next second, her pair of ugly hands came into view, and he frowned at the sight. For the first time ever, he wanted to remove her scars!
Just when his emotions were riled up, the climax of the repertoire was over, and the music resumed to sounding melodious again. Milton then found that his mood had relaxed and turned cheerful according to the music, so he looked at Maryanna with even more shock.
After a short while, the song ended.
Maryanne opened her excited and delighted eyes. Putting down the bow and the violin, she then made a deep bow to the only audience present.
Milton watched at her with awe and pity.
Maryanne waited for a few seconds, but Milton did not comment on her performance. She then asked, "What do you think?"
Milton offered warm applause, and his action explained his opinions.
"Pfft." Maryanne poked him in the face and asked with a smile, "Why do you look so emotional? You look like I've just done something extraordinary."
"You sure did." Milton expressed from the bottom of his heart.
Maryanne cast him a sidelong glance. "I know that in your eyes, I'm an ignorant and dense woman. So, when I perform a little better than usual, you think I'm amazing."
If it were Amelia who played so well, he would not be as surprised. Because in his eyes, Amelia was perfect, and nothing could stump her.
Milton raised his hand to pinched his nose bridge and said helplessly, "Maryanne, do you have to argue with me?"
"Okay, thank you for your affirmation!" Maryanne put her hands behind her back and asked shyly, "Are you satisfied with this repayment?"
Sensing her intention to avoid the topic, Milton said, "Maryanne, if you want to play in the future, I'll always be your listener."
Maryanne replied with delight, "Okay!"
In Japan, Tokyo.
Kaito family's farm covered an area of about eight hundred acres. It fed more than three hundred livestock and planted more than five hundred orchard trees. The team on the farm was made up of Kaito, his wife, the son and daughter and another three workers. The entire farm was quite technologically advanced and relied heavily on machinery.
When Patrick brought the family of five to the farm, the Kaito family greeted them with enthusiasm.
Later on, Amelia learned that this farm was one of the sites where Roxxon Corporation was considering expanding their office. The Kaito family was facing a serious loss and had to sell their business.
Their farm was too vast to be bought or made do with by ordinary folks, so only businessmen like Patrick could take it over.
"My friends from America, welcome!" cried out Kaito, who was a young man with a beard. He was dressed in a plain farming uniform and a pair of waterproof boots, his eyes deep and melancholy.
As for his wife and children, they stood behind him somewhat bashfully. After Kaito welcomed them, they shook hands with Patrick and the rest.
"Mr. Kaito, my family is a little tired after a long flight. Can you please arrange two rooms for us?" Patrick asked.
"Of course!" Kaito agreed without hesitation.
He knew that Patrick's visit represented the highest form of courtesy from Roxxon Corporation. In other words, as long as Kaito could convince Patrick, they could sell the farm with no problem.
"Akira, Hinata, lead the way." Kaito ordered his children to show their guests the rooms because he had to talk to Patrick about the farm.
It was Akira and Hinata's first time meeting such adorable children like Andrew and Ashley from the west. For ten years olds like them, it was a new discovery.
When they heard their father's instructions, they shot each other a regretful look. Then, they walked in front of the group while carrying hunting rifles.
Ever since Ashley entered the farm, her curiosity peaked. At the same time, she noticed the hunting rifles on Akira and Hinata's backs. She asked, "Andrew, why are they carrying guns on their backs?"
"Maybe it's to stop bad people from coming to steal?" Andrew said uncertainly.
