Come To Me (Amelia and Patrick) novel Chapter 1604

Maryanne pouted unhappily. "Am I that unreasonable to you?"

Milton looked at her and replied carefully, "I just think that Amelia is a sensitive topic between us, so I want to avoid it as much as possible."

Maryanne pursed her lips and answered bitterly, "I told you before that you can go back to find her whenever you want."

After a pause, she continued, "And my words are still effective."

Milton's face stiffened slightly. "Are you mad at me?"

Maryanne shook her head sadly. "No, I'm serious. Go on. Take advantage of the fact that she hasn't married Patrick yet. You won't have the chance after the 20th of next month."

Milton jumped up from the bed and rushed up to Maryanne in two steps. His voice seemed to contain inexplicable anger as he said, "You're doing it again!"

In Maryanne's opinion, his accusation was a counter- charge after she exposed his true intention. "Did I say anything wrong? Isn't that what you think? If I hadn't asked you to book a ticket to New York for me, you would've concealed everything from me and fly back to Northville tomorrow morning to look for her, right?"

"I...!" Milto's handsome face revealed some embarrassment and guilt. "I didn't mean to hide it from you. I just didn't want to quarrel with you!"

"Okay, if you don't want to argue, then tell me, what are we doing at this very second? Are we flirting with each other?" Maryanne asked back sarcastically.

Milton was speechless.

"Whenever something happens to her, you act like a completely different person. Usually, you're gentle and humorous, but look at you now..." Maryanne pointed at the mirror behind Milton and asked him to reflect on himself.

Milton turned back to find a reflection of his discontented expression with a tight frown.

But he was sure that it was not all because of Amelia that he was this way.

"Do you see yourself? This is the real you."

Maryanne was standing behind him. In the mirror in front of him, Milton could clearly make out her pale face.

"Maryanne." He turned around and raised his hand, gently pressing down on her shoulders while saying in a defeated tone, "It's my fault."

Maryanne tensed up when she heard him, not being able to tell if he was sincere or feigning it. She let out a frustrated sigh and said after collecting herself, "All right. You know I can't stay mad at you. I've already seen the news about Amelia from my brother's reposts. The second matter is quite serious, so maybe she needs a knight like you now..."

Milton was still listening to her attentively at first. But as she went on, something sounded off. He said with his head aching, "Maryanne, what are you saying?"

"You're about to leave, so can't you let me feel jealous?" Maryanne glared at him.

When Milton saw how she had pouted her lips aggrievedly, he could not help but pull her into his arms. "Don't be. I promise I won't mess around."

Maryanne wanted to push him away, but as soon as her fingertip touched his waist, she felt as though she was glued to him and could not pull her hand back.

So, she buried her face into his arms and mumbled, "How can you bear to mess around when your goddess is with you?"

Milton listened to her sour tone and felt amused, asking, "Goddess? Who are you talking about?" "Who else can it be?" Maryanne gritted her teeth.

"You." Milton looked down at her.

Maryanne immediately raised her head from his chest and asked in surprise, "Me?"

Milton looked fixedly at her and replied, "Yea, you're my goddess."

Maryanne paused from being stunned for a moment before she replied haughtily, "Humph! That sounds nice, but I won't believe you!"

As she spoke, she broke free from Milton's hand and tittered.

Unexpectedly, Milton's hand trailed down her arm and held her hand, not allowing her to leave. "Maryanne, I'll bring you home. Is that okay?"

Maryanne froze instantly. "You...you want to bring me home?"

"Yes. Haven't you always missed your parents and friends? So I'll take you home, okay?" Milton was serious, a faint pity in his voice.

Since she had come to England with him, she had not met any of her relatives other than Hobart.

Milton could tell that she was homesick, but she still chose to stay because of him.

Maryanne recovered after a shorter while this time. In an instant, she looked extremely thrilled, and she exclaimed, "Okay! I want to go home! I want to go home now!"

For the first time, Milton felt he had made a good decision watching her chirping around.

Hobart raised a brow and approached closer to Milton. "Oh, so you still acknowledge that you're my sister's boyfriend?"

Milton scowled after he heard Hobart. "What do you mean?"

Hobart took another two steps forward and replied with a faint smile, "I know who you came for."

Milton's eyes widened with surprise, shoving Hobart away and opening the trunk of the car, moving the luggage in one by one.

Hobart did not let him get away with it. He leaned with one hand on the trunk boot and said, "What's wrong? Was that the truth? And that's why you're so ashamed that you're willing to be the maid now?"

Milton swivelled around and threw the luggage at Hobart's chest, causing Hobart to muffle in pain. Milton then spat, "I just don't want to waste my time on you."

Pulling a long face, Hobart warned, "Do you think I want to waste my time on you too? Listen, my sister wears her heart on her sleeves for you. If you dare to wrong her, I'll never let you go!"

With a slam, Milton flung the suitcase into the trunk. Then, he clapped his hands and strode past Hobart with a poker face without saying a word.

Hobart clenched his jaw. He had laid it out clearly, and yet, Milton did not even bother to respond. This only showed how insincere he was about Maryanne!

Maryanne heard the loud slam from inside the car and trembled in response. She looked out of the window nervously and saw Milton walking towards her, seemingly unmoved.

At the sight of this, she breathed a sigh of relief and invited with enthusiasm, "Milton, why don't you sit at the back with me?"

"Okay." Milton finally flashed a light smile when he faced Maryanne.

Just as he was about to reach out to open the car door, Hobart suddenly slapped his hand away and pushed him aside with his butt. He said coldly, "I have something to say to Maryanne. You can

drive."

Not to mention Milton, even Maryanne was taken aback after they heard what Hobart said. "Hobart...is that appropriate?"

Hobart turned to her and said to his sister with pity, "Maryanne, are you only worried about your boyfriend now? Do you know that I woke up two hours earlier than usual to pick you up? I'm so sleepy right now. What if I accidentally fall asleep when I'm driving?"

"Hobart, can you stop joking around?" Maryanne watched her brother, who was in high spirits with not a hint of drowsiness on his face. It was obvious that he was trying to bully Milton.

"Maryanne, forget it. I'll drive. I don't want you to get into any accident." With that, Milton walked in the direction of the driver's seat, leaving Hobart snorting coldly at his back.
