Chapter 12
Roana,
“Mate? You must be kidding.” Alexander’s voice was sharp, laced with contempt as he wrinkled his nose in disgust. “She is utterly useless, Your Majesty.”
His words hit me like a harsh slap, burning through my pride and tightening my chest with the sting of public humiliation. I could feel the weight of his scorn pressing down on me, raw and unrelenting.
Cassian’s hand tightened possessively around my waist, his grip firm and unyielding. A sly smirk played at the corner of his lips as his glowing crimson eyes locked onto Alexander. “Useless? Is that what you think?” His tone was dangerously calm, simmering with quiet threat. “It seems Alpha Alexander is nothing but blind. But then again, blindness suits the Alpha of Silverstone perfectly. A pack led by a fool deserves no better.”
The insult cut deep, sharper than any blade. Alexander flinched, a flicker of uncertainty breaking through his arrogant facade. I stood frozen, stunned by how effortlessly Cassian saw through him.
Alexander’s jaw clenched tightly. “Even if I am a fool, at least I know my worth. Not like you—full of lies and deceit. Do you have any idea how humiliating it was to have her by my side? To parade such a burden before my people? I granted her the title of Luna out of pity, but apparently, even that was wasted.”
My throat tightened, his venomous words slicing through me, but I forced my voice out, cold and sharp as steel. “So you were ashamed of me?”
Alexander sneered, curling his lips in disgust. “Shouldn’t I be? Look at you. You’re nothing but a—”
He never finished. Cassian’s hand shot out like lightning, wrapping around Alexander’s throat with such brutal force that a sickening crack echoed in the tense silence. The fiery red blaze in Cassian’s eyes burned into Alexander like molten iron.
“Say it,” Cassian growled, his voice low and primal. “I dare you.”
Alexander gasped, eyes wide with shock and pain, his legs flailing helplessly as if trying to escape an invisible trap.
My body trembled, not from sadness but pure, blazing fury.
“Your Majesty!” I cried, my voice breaking as my trembling fingers clawed at Cassian’s chest. “Let him go!”
For a moment, Cassian’s eyes blazed with raw, unfiltered rage. Then, slowly, they shifted, narrowing on me with a dark mixture of confusion, anger, and cold irritation that made my stomach twist.
“He insulted you,” Cassian snarled.
“Just let him go,” I urged, steadier this time, though my heart pounded wildly.
The air between us crackled with tension. Cassian shoved Alexander to the ground, loosening his grip but not the fire simmering in his gaze.
Alexander coughed, laughing bitterly through the pain, spitting out, “See? She can’t stand to watch me suffer. She can’t let me go. Because I was the only man who—”
Before he could finish, I drove my knee hard into his groin. His body crumpled, a strangled cry tearing from his throat as he curled up on the cold ground. Emily gasped, stumbling back, her face pale as she clutched her stomach.
“Pathetic bastard,” I spat, standing tall over him, shadows cutting across his defeated face. “You should be ashamed of yourself. And now that I think about it, I feel sorry for the next woman who has to endure your impotence. A man who collapses from one kick is no man at all.”
Silence fell, heavy and suffocating. Even the air seemed to hold its breath. Alexander lay frozen in pain, his pride utterly shattered, while Emily trembled with wide, terrified eyes.
Then, like distant thunder breaking the stillness, Cassian chuckled—a low, unsettling sound that quickly turned into sharp laughter. “Hah. Impressive.”
Alexander’s fury erupted, his pale face flushing crimson. “You bitch! How dare you humiliate me in public! You promised you’d stay as long as I—”
“Yes,” I cut him off, my voice razor-sharp. “As long as you showed respect. But respect is something you never had. You’re nothing but a failure of a man.”
“Your Majesty!” A soldier’s voice broke through the tension, breathless as he approached. “We’ve captured the rogues. They were under some kind of control—”
“Good,” Cassian snapped, his tone commanding. “And we know who’s behind it—”
