**Chapter 45**
Roana,
I could sense his presence looming behind me, a solid wall of warmth and strength that both comforted and intimidated. The heaviness of his chest pressed against my back, and the air was thick with an unmistakable tension. The faint scent of lime mingled with his deep, musky aroma—a telltale sign of his foul mood. My body instinctively trembled, responding to the realization that I had somehow turned this moment into a chaotic mess.
This gathering was meant to be a seamless affair, a well-orchestrated event where he would address the turmoil threatening to tear the Region apart. Instead, there he stood, radiating displeasure that was almost tangible, filling the space around us with an electric charge.
My mother’s wide eyes flickered with disbelief, her complexion drained as if she had encountered a ghost. She had never expected the King himself to declare me as his woman, and the shock was evident in her expression.
I understood that Cassian’s words were intended to shield me from my mother’s relentless disdain, but within the depths of my heart, I felt a tremor at the weight of his proclamation.
How I wished I were truly his wife. How desperately I longed for my mate to love me with sincerity. I yearned for the day when I wouldn’t have to hear that Alexander had only married me out of pity, that I was merely an obligation. My thoughts spiraled into a whirlwind of desires and regrets…
“Why are you crying? My Queen never shows weakness in front of commoners!” Cassian’s voice sliced through the tension, cold and commanding. He wrapped his arm around me, pulling me closer, his tone unyielding. “You should hold your head high and show them that you are not someone to be trifled with!”
Looking into Cassian’s fierce gaze, tears streamed down my cheeks. “I’m sorry. Sorry for being so pathetic!” I whispered, my voice barely breaking the silence.
“Pathetic?” A chilling chuckle escaped his lips, laced with disbelief. “Are you truly?”
His eyes burned with an intensity I couldn’t quite decipher, something fierce and possessive simmering just beneath the surface. Before I could fully comprehend the shift in the atmosphere, he grasped my mother’s hand, who stood frozen, too stunned to articulate a single word.
“Your—Your Majesty! What brings you here?” she stammered, struggling to grasp the gravity of the situation unfolding before her.
Here was her overweight daughter being shielded by the Lycan King, a man notorious for his disdain toward she-wolves, and now he was claiming me as his Queen? The shock rendered her momentarily mute.
She swallowed hard, her eyes darting to mine, unable to maintain her previous arrogance. She realized, perhaps for the first time, that I had someone standing resolutely by my side. Her feigned maternal love and concern had once manipulated me, but Cassian was a force she could not sway.
“Why am I here?” His voice darkened, a storm brewing within. “You have barged into a significant event uninvited, attempting to create chaos for my Queen. And now you dare to question my presence? Luna Milestones, I had no idea you were so naïve.”
His words dripped with a calm calculation that sent chills racing down my spine. Though his body remained still, he filled every corner of the hall with his formidable presence. The air thickened, charged with an undeniable sense of dominance.
My mother trembled under his scrutinizing gaze. She opened her mouth to speak but found herself paralyzed by fear. This was indeed a critical occasion, one that had been organized exclusively for the Ocean Region. Her presence threatened to expose secrets that should remain buried.
“My… My King. I believe there’s been a misunderstanding. I am merely here to collect my daughter. She hasn’t returned home for months, and her Alpha has been waiting for her.” Her voice quivered as she stammered, “And… you must have misunderstood. She… she is already married to Alpha Alexander. There’s no way someone like her could be the Queen!” She laughed awkwardly, desperately avoiding his piercing gaze.
“Someone like her? It appears Alpha Alexander has yet to learn his lesson!” His grip on me tightened, and before I could process his next move, he lifted my chin and pressed his lips against mine.
A gasp echoed through the room. Even the guests lingering at a distance, witnessing the spectacle unfold, covered their mouths in shock.
Yet, Cassian remained unfazed by the astonished onlookers this time. The scent surrounding him remained unchanged. Cyrus always emanated a sweet fragrance when he took on his human form. But as Cassian kissed me, his movements slow yet possessive, a shiver coursed through my entire being.
My heart raced wildly. His warmth enveloped me, his breath steady and deep against my own. I felt the hem of my dress flutter as his arm encircled my waist, pulling me tightly against him. Our bodies melded together, lost in a moment that felt both eternal and fleeting.
Cassian finally pulled away, his gaze locking onto my mother’s shocked expression. “I was the one who permitted them to separate. My Mate does not deserve a cheating bastard. And what did you say?” He pressed my head against his chest, his voice vibrating through me. “Someone like her?” His eyes narrowed dangerously.
“Look at her now!” He smirked, a wicked grin spreading across his face. “Just one word from her, and I will obliterate Silverstone and your Pack without a second thought! So fear her!” His proclamation was not merely directed at my mother but echoed throughout the hall, making his intentions abundantly clear.
I could feel the tension radiating off him like heat, wild and untamed beneath his calm exterior.
“What… what do you mean by separation? Did Alpha Alexander permit it?” My mother still had the audacity to question him.
“Permit?” He scoffed, “No one owns her. I am her husband now, both legally and by fate. So, Luna Milestones, you may leave. If I see you near my wife again, you can say goodbye to your life!” His words, though calm, carried a weight that threatened to buckle her knees.
Without wasting another moment, Cassian commanded, “Guards. Escort Luna Milestones to her vehicle. Ensure a confidentiality agreement is in place before she departs this region.”
Her face paled, panic flashing in her eyes. She attempted to argue, but the guards were already on the move.
“It’s a misunderstanding, Roana! Tell him! It’s just a misunderstanding. I meant no harm.” She reached for my hand, but Cassian swatted it away.
