Jayson didn’t pick up.

Nancy drew in a long breath but couldn’t quiet the anxiety and anger rising in her chest. After the mess at the art exhibition, she’d also lost her status as a shareholder of Veyo Solutions.

“What’s the matter?” Sarah asked as soon as she got home. Nancy’s incoherent phone call earlier had worried her–something serious had to have happened for her to lose her composure so completely.

Nancy met her with a cold, hard stare. “Veyo Solutions… It’s got nothing to do with us anymore.”

She roughly told Sarah what happened.

Sarah’s heart missed a beat, and she felt her limbs go limp as her face grew pale. “Jayson couldn’t have forgotten about something like that. Why didn’t he warn you?”

Nancy’s head throbbed. She paused, thinking of Matt’s words, the let out a long, weary sigh.

“If Ariel hadn’t insisted on fighting, Nexura Solutions could’ve been the backing Jayson had arranged for me.”

Matt had a point. Having Nexura Solutions invest in Veyo Solutions would have been the cleanest solution. If not for Seth and Terrance, Nancy wouldn’t have been dragged into that explosive dispute with Ariel and Nexura Solutions wouldn’t have ended up in Ariel’s hands.

Sarah plopped down on the couch, stunned. After a few moments, she clenched her fists, and as the shocking news slowly registered in her mind, her voice began to rise. “Did Jayson say how we’re going to fix this? He won’t just walk away, right?”

If they just let it happen, the last six months of their hard work would be wasted. Not only would Sarah lose her investment, but Ariel would also be the one to benefit from all their effort!

Nancy’s lips were pale. She thought again of the unanswered call.

Sarah’s stomach dropped. A sense of foreboding rose within her. “Do you think Jayson’s abandoning you?”

She found the entire incident a bit strange, but her mind was so jumbled that she couldn’t figure out what the problem was.

“He wouldn’t.” Nancy set her jaw. “He spent so much to get me in that competition and onto the research team. He couldn’t have wanted this to happen either.”

Sarah was seething with anger, taking in the firm look on Nancy’s face. She found many things about the incident odd, and the reasons she could think of didn’t seem convincing.

If Jayson hadn’t arranged things deliberately, why didn’t he warn Nancy? If he had acted deliberately, why would he?

Was it for Ariel?

Knitting her brows, Sarah inwardly dismissed the possibility. Everyone knew how badly Jayson and Ariel hated each other; it made no sense that he’d side with Ariel. 2

“Mom, Jayson couldn’t have predicted that Veyo Solutions and Fay Tech would end up in so many disputes and lawsuits,” Nancy said, forcing herself to stay calm and piece the situation together. “If it weren’t for Seth and Terrance, Nexura Solutions wouldn’t have slipped to Ariel.” 15

No one could have foreseen all that. If Jayson hadn’t offered Nex Solutions to keep Ariel from pressing charges, Nancy wouldn’t be sitting here right now.

Sarah fell silent. Hearing it said aloud made the sequence of event undeniable. Nexura Solutions had been lost due to the legal dispute Nancy had been dragged into. There was no arguing it.

Still, Sarah couldn’t calm down. Her face was as white as a sheet, and the thought of their current predicament was too much. She picked up the drawing board from the table and hurled it to the floor.
